So I was just walking around Raleigh with my family and my friend Florian Alexandru-Zorn. Sam Ash had cancelled his Charlotte clinic for whatever reason so we had some time to kill. Walked past a random antique store and spotted a club date. I offered $500 and it was mine. I made my offer based on restored versions fetching anywhere from $1500 and more. After reading more on this thread perhaps I got a bad deal :(

Regardless here are the details. 12,14, 20 with a later model COW snare, original snare stand and speed king pedal.

I am not sure the direction I am going to take here. I believe the shells are a matching kit since they all have the same wrap, hardware, date stamps and came form an estate sale. I might try to restore these to sell in Europe or just keep them as a players kit here.

You did great price-wise for the kit. However, there appears to be some black mold, or mildew inside the bass drum. You can remove it and kill the mold with mix of bleach & water. Be sure to wear a face mask and rubber gloves whenever cleaning up after mold or mildew.

Once you track down the missing parts and throw a new set of heads on them, the kit will be worth more than twice what you paid for it.

Overseas that kit when fixed up will b worth much more than if sold in the U.S. in my opinion. I don't get matching it up with the 80's Rocker snare though... Get a Pioneer matching snare eventually and keep the whole thing :)

Yes I understand that :) I used to live in Bamberg, Germany. My wife and I would go to the Czech Republic all the time. It was only a couple hours by car from Bamberg.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I live very near Anchor Drums and Shawn has done the restoration of my 70's Sonor phonic kit already. I am going to bring it over to his shop and get some ideas.

I still do have a lot of friends in Europe so the idea of a business to restore and sell drums there came up. My German bank account would make it easy to process the transactions.

I don't think there is mold as the pictures did not show the details. This morning I just threw on some Evans G1's I had extra and they fit on the reso sides of each drum easily. I normally only play Sonor drums but if I keep this kit it could fit the bill for some of the crazy session work I do.

My first question to all of you experts would be the interior of the shells. They of course have some very small issues that I will have sorted but I was thinking of repainting the insides. I would of course not damage the date stamp. I own a Commercial construction company and have worked for years as a carpenter so I am not afraid of wood work. I would be worried though that while it would make it look nicer it could take away some value.

I would definitely not re-paint the interiors, even if I was gonna keep them for life. No one who is interested in buying vintage drums wants new paint---original condition is very important. They need a gentle cleaning inside with warm slightly soapy water & a sponge. My 2c...........marko
