Someone just gave me a 26 inch WMP slingerland bass drum

It looks like a marching bass drum by the loops near the top

It is fairly yellowed

In my research i have found it was made during WWII

Because the govt. put a ban on metal parts

Thus all the lugs are wooden

Missing one hoop and claws and t rods for that side

Can anyone tell me if this is rare or valuable.???

I plan to keep it and hang it in my shop after i get a custom bass drum head made for it

Any help or more info greatly appreciated

Yes. Rare and valuable. Slingerland Rolling Bomber bass drum. Please dont hang it on a wall! Those are very hard to find.

It seems that lugs are available.....and the other parts should be normal Slingy-equiment.

Made during the invocation of the 10% rule,which limits the amount of metal ,that could be used ,because of metal rationing during the war.Just a little piece of drum history.

Gretsch wartime wood lugged drums were called Bombers,Leedy were called Alliance and WFL were called Victorious.

I'm not sure about Rogers,or it they even made drums during the war.

Our own Bermuda has a Ludwig & Ludwig Victory set,made during WW II,which also used wooden lugs.Hopefully,he'll read this thread and post a pic or two.Beautiful drums.

Leedy WWII drums were not called "Alliance". They were known as "Dreadnoughts", after the battleships.

Rogers did make a few wooden lug drums during the war.

I don't think "Alliance" was used. Could be confusing it with "Reliance". The only names I have seen associated with Dreadnought are "Commando" and "Victor". The Commando had a bass, snare, and tom while the Victor set had two toms, bass and snare.

Well I have seen it mentioned often, John Aldridge refers to the Leedy "Alliance" in his book and a google search produces quite a few hits as well.
