Slingerland Phantoms - Indianapolis, IN Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Loading...

I posted a few months back about wanting to find some information on selling a set of Slingerland Phantoms that I have. I've never sold vintage instruments, especially not something so elusive as these drums. It's difficult to find much information relating to them at all. I was told pictures would help alot so I'll include one of the whole kit here.

I'd like to find the most appropriate way to do this and to come up with a fair and reasonable price. Most of all, I'd like to know that the drums end up with someone who really appreciates what they are and has the time and resources to give them proper restoration. What do you think guys?

Nathan, man this is a beauty, rare is what you have especially with the snare drum. $2000.00 would be the least I would sale them for.

Condition is everything! Even though there aren't many of these Phantom kits around, most interested buyers will pass on them if there are structural problems, such as cracks, chips, spiderwebbing, etc.

I've seen a few of these kits sell on eBay. Even those in EXCELLENT condition have never sold anywhere close to $2000. In today's vintage drum economy, I just don't see that happening. I'm currently away on vacation, but when I get home I can supply you with pictures and prices that these kits have sold for.

Nice Kit.

Here's an indicator of what is being asked..

(It may be worth investing in the original claws for the front hoop, and some hoop inlays in order to cap a premium price)..

Cheers

Nathan. The bass drum back rim and the rim claws are not Slingerland, Do you have the snare drum rim, and the bass drum spurs ?

I'm aware of the non original parts and no, I don't have the stick-saver rims for the snare.

Basically my situation is that I have these shells, which do have some cracks, and I don't have all of the hardware that belongs with them (I do have the tom mount not pictured.) I'm your typical poor musician and I can't afford to invest in them at all. Like I said before, I'd like to find someone who can do what I can't. Not really that concerned with the price that much. Realistically, I had been thinking of posting them and asking for $900 because of the condition and the labour involved in restoration.

I honestly couldn't see these bringing $2,000, especially with the missing/non original parts.

Personally, I believe that they should be worth 2,000 (especially considering rarity and when compared to the cost of new kits today), but if you are being realistic about the current vintage market, I wouldn't expect that.

Here is a recently completed auction for a Slingerland Phantom floor tom. It sold for $140:

Many sellers (myself included) tend to be idealistic about their asking prices, only to find themselves lowering the price significantly to make a sale or waiting a long time for the right buyer.

That would be a good starting point price wise.

Last year about this time, a full set of Phantoms that was absolutely pristine went for about $1,450 plus $100 shipping. I bought a shell pack without snare for $750 that had some rust issues but were otherwise fine. See the thread "Phantom Sling" for full details.

If you would consider splitting up the kit, I might be interested in the snare, depending on its condition. Finding parts shouldn't be a problem. Please PM me: I probably can't reply right away between a gig tonight and plans for tomorrow afternoon, but I can offer various combinations of cash and several items in trade.
