I'm sure I will eventually buy the telescopic insert. I bought the replacement handle from Emory. Is this the one that drops in or does it need work?

Yes. It took a little work with fine rat tail file and sanding with fine emory cloth (no pun intended :)) but very do able. There's a thread about them somewhere here. I'll look for it and post it for you.
