Don Henley drums?

Loading...

I always loved the Eagles and Henley's tasteful almost minimalist drumming. I know he played the same Ludwig kit, bottom heads removed, for the first four or five albums. He added what looks like custom made wooden timbales for the Hotel California album. Then when recording their last album The Long Run and subsequent touring he played a kit with 7 huge concert toms. Anyone know what kind of a kit it was? Looked like a Gretsch.

1958 Gretsch Kit
1966 Kent Kit
1969 Ludwig Standard Kit
1970 Rogers Power Tone Kit
1970's Ludwig Vistalite Kit
1994 Yamaha Maple Custom
2010 Yamaha Maple Custom
28 assorted snares (including some real crap)
and 1 really nice K Zildjian Istanbul

Good question. I'm interested too.

I do know Henley didn't play on all the tracks from their last album, Long Road Out of Eden.

Last couple of times down here he played DW.. He has some issue with his back and suffers some pain when he's behind a kit..

Of all the Eagles / Henley stuff out there its difficult to find a pic of him actually behind the kit.. thousands of portrait type shots.. so few of him playing drums.

Cheers

Oops I meant the last album the original Eagles recorded called "The Long Run" not the reunion stuff. He did switch to DW around 1990 and has played them since. But what was that kit he played on that album it had 6 huge toms, light colored natural finish, not bottom heads, like concert toms. Just curious. Saw a video recently.

I'm pretty sure they were new (at the time) Ludwigs.

Never play it the same way once.

If you go to google images you can see Henley playing a set of stop sign badge Gretsch.

I thought he played Slingerland, early on. Not sure what the bigger kit was. Or, maybe he mentioned his mom bought him his first set, which were Slingerland and I think he still has them.

Love the Eagles. Catch History of the Eagles vid, if you get a chance. Parts I & II. Great stories.

There is a video of the Eagles in Central Park-'72,where he's playing what looks like 4 piece a Keystone badge Ludwig with a large Superphonic snare. Big bass drum, maybe a 26"".

Here's a reverse and side photo of Don playing Luddies and the wooden timbales.
