Ludwig Standards Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hi All - Just wondering what the Luddy experts out there think of the Standards. From what I can gather, the shells were the same 3 ply as the Classics but the kits came with inferior hardware. There is a beautiful 5 piece 60's kit in very cool Brown Strata for sale at GC for $899. About $950 with tax. As with all GC photos it's hard to tell the condition but the kit looks as if it was made yesterday. Any opinions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Dave, if that is a 4 or 5 piece kit that isn't a bad price, your correct on the shell make up it it is indeed the famous Ludwig 3 ply shell lurking underneath that wrap.

Indeed. I don't know that the hardware is all that inferior either. I have an Acrolite standard that I have used since day 1 in the early 70's and the lugs function as any other lug. They did have some cool colors that differentiated the Standards from their "pro" line and a lot of people find those colors to be very desirable. Nothing wrong with those at all.

Poppy did a conversion some time ago as I recall. I believe he re-wrapped the kit in citrus mod. That would give you two ways to search threads for the answer to that very good question.

I think the Standards are cool, I have always had my eyes out for them. If you end up with the drums, you know the rules, pics please.

Thank you!

I saw those brown strata Sstandards too. The shell depths are short and look odd. Hack job? Maybe I'm wrong, but I laid off inquiring about them. The tandards in general should have athat great classic Ludwig sound at an affordable price.
