Camco set w/24" bass Last viewed: 10 seconds ago

I have this habit of checking out really cool drums that I run across on the bandstand - this is one set that would occupy more than a little bit of my time if I saw it. Is the interior of the bass drum original, or have you redone it, and is it as dark as it looks in the picture? (Shellac tends to darken beautifully like that: I didn't think anyone was using shellac at that time.)So many drummers nowadays play brand new sets, which don't interest me at all. I enjoy seeing older sets being used for what they were intended for, rather than gathering dust in closets and basements. I hope you are still playing them and making good music....

It's too bad he won't answer, his band in the 60s and 70s cut a few albums and was quite popular. I think he is enjoying the anonymity.

I had a 24,13,14, 18FT Chanute kit 13 years ago that came from a studio in Georgia. Same finish. I'm sorry that I sold them.

Those are so sweet,... !Which Camco period are they from?Did you ever consider to install Rogers floor tom hardware on that 14" tom?A 1up 2down configuration including a 6.5" snare in that finish and the Rogers hardware,... It doesn't get any better than that !!!

I ordered them in 1970 or 71 and had to wait for them, so I think they were made to order - especially the 24" bass. I couldn't get a 14" side tom, so I mounted the 14" tom on a BR stand.

the drums are all original. I do still play them, but keep them in cases when not in use.

Crow? For what? Something that I can't prove is real? I don't instantly jump to conclusions and accept something is real even if I can't prove it, not a good practice to do. I would end up eating crow on many mistakes if I did that! Have I made mistakes in the past? Absolutely. Did Camco ever make shells without re-rings? I honestly don't know but I don't have any proof to prove that they did. I'm not sure what your beef is with me but like I said before, whatever!

There you go, Dolfan! Ordered new from the factory and all original...I think 3 24" bass drums all from the same period, all in Walnut Stain, and all from different parts of the country are more than enough proof of them being made without re-rings.

I'm not looking to get in the middle of the Camco battle, but I want to simply state the facts as I see them. I have in my possession, two of the 24" bass drums in question. One of them was acquired by a forum member long ago, and I have no history on that one, but the other one I purchased locally. It had been painted black on top of white on top Camco walnut stain. When I removed the badge, there was unmistakable Camco stain under it, as I am sure there is under the rest of the layered paint. Both shells look to be factory drilled, and have no unused holes, or anything odd other than being no re-ring, and a bit thicker than a standard Camco. The interiors are stained and are a standard Camco color. With the addition of this set (Daves), I am convinced 100% of the authenticity of all three. They are of the rare birds of the era I would say, and I am happy to see some rare birds still come out of the wood work. It keeps this drum collecting game interesting. If we had all seen everything, we wouldn't be searching for that next one off treasure. ----- Here are a few pictures of the shells I have. they will be restored and played as the Camco beauties they are !!

Wow they are lovely Drums!!

I played a Camco Jazz kit some 10 years ago on a gig and they blew me away.

I've been looking for years for a Camco kit ever since but they are rare here in the UK and I don't know much about them at all. I've seen a rough one on ebay once that was a fortune.

It's interesting for me to see posts exchanged with an original owner of a kit like this even if the questions seem facile. Slingalud, it may seem funny to you, but it makes me feel uncomfortable when you berate another member on here for trying to create an understanding. I'm pretty sure that rough Camco that was on ebay a few years ago had re-rings in the bass drum and was definitely a lighter coloured wood inside. Now I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger on that one.

Really?.... So now we have another expert on these 24" bass drums without re-rings, and that you have never seen in person. How did you come by that opinion? or are you just blowing with the wind which ever way it blows hardest. "It sounds like a typical neutered response".... Furthermore, the rough looking one, as you call it, was never for sale on ebay!!!! So once again another opinion that's based on B.S....! How are you feeling about that? Gooood! You know Geckobeats, In 1987 I got the tattoo THIS WE'LL DEFEND on my chest along with 8 other's. Although we were all drunk I have never regretted it, and to compromise what I believe to be true, would be a dishonor.
