The 60's Ludwig Gold Sparkle color difference?

Loading...

Hi!

I have the Gold Sparkle Ludwig 20", 13", 16" set from the 60's and bought another big floor tom. The seller said it's gold sparkle. However, it's more like orange sparkle. Is there really this kind of finish or what's going on?

This site does not mention it:

The kit looks like ginger-aled silver sparkle. The more orange floor tom is in fact gold sparkle.

I agree...The floor tom on the left has faded to a ginger-ale color...

Cheers

i would pull a lug off of one of your drums to inspect the wrap underneath. that should give you an idea of what your wrap looked like before it faded,if it faded.

Thanks for your replys!

I have checked the wrap color under lugs on the 1965-66 set and it's not as orange as the "new" 1967 floor tom. I just can't believe the color would change so much during the years. Manufacturing error in the wrap factory?

Yes, your set is a faded silver sparkle it seems and the other floor Tom is a aged gold sparkle. That gold sparkle Tom matches my set and era if you want to consider selling it. Also I would not leave those drums in front of those open windows if you don't want your wrap to fade even more.

More like the drums were left in a room with sun hitting them every day for a few years.

Crazy way to use the consolette and cymbal L arm to get the Tom where you want it. Cool.

Hmmm.. Sounds like I have to keep the orange floor tom in direct sunlight next years or sell it away now. Does anyone want to exchange it to a pale gold sparkle tom? 14" is ok also.

Yeah, the tom mount is tweakable :)
