I see quite a few of these UFIP cymbals for sale. Are they nice? Not much of a cymbal guy outside of the A Zild and Paiste I've had over the years.

Don't beat yourself up about it...The seller is an actual drumstore, so he might list another one from his stock...If he does, there's your chance...

Cheers

Slingerland,

While you may have missed the winning bid by $4, you really have no idea what the winner was really willing to pay. The cymbal could have gone for twice that amount or even more. Don't bother beating yourself up over that. There will always be another one somewhere that needs a good home.

I had the opportunity to purchase a 17" crash once, and when I brought it to practice, it was a magical moment, you know what I mean, as it is with cymbals, finding that perfect sound (you never seem to get) when I played this thing my ears heard music from heaven, I started doing research on them, and discovered how desireable they are. The qaulity is really high, I read on they made them with a patented process. and whatever it is, it works, I since bought an 18" also locally. now I want to ride, to complete a nice set of these gems. Note, they do have several series, I have the "rough" series which I'm making my evaluation on.

Good to know thanks. Yes cymbals are such a personal choice I'm afraid to buy them online without being able to hear them. I'm hoping to source some locally. I need to buy nice 16" and 18" crashes and prefer them on the thin side. I'll certainly look into some of these. :)

A friend tells me that there is software that automatically outbids at the close of an auction. I have lost many auctions in the last few seconds, so I tend to believe him. I would never use it, because that's obviously cheating, and a dastardly thing to do; but I reckon there are plenty of folks who have no problem using it. So don't feel too bad. I'm sure another will turn up. I've heard good things about those UFIP cymbals as well.

Better luck next time.

You really have to put down the highest amount you can afford, not the highest amount you'd like to pay. There's a difference. If you did that, then rest easy.

I don't like snipers either, but they're operating under the same constraints. It's a matter of who wants it more: If you're willing to pay more than they are, then it doesn't matter when they make their bid. You may pay more than you would have liked, but you can still afford it. And if it goes higher than what you can afford, no loss to you and you've made a sniper pay more.

There may also be installment plans available through Bill Me Later or interest-free offers through your credit cards ... I've successfully bid on several big-ticket items using both of those methods.

Im with Glenn here. very hard to buy something with out hearing it. But I suppose most of you guys just know how these cymbals sound because you have heard them before and have experiance out the wazoo. Ive had pretty good luck with e-bay but the best thing for me is to see and hear it in person, which is hard to do sometimes. So I do look at ebay for drums and hardware but with cymbals I just dont know enough about them to buy with out hearing them. Just a week ago or so I saw some Zildjian hats on C.L. I took a stand and some sticks along with the hats that I have for comparison. On the way there I was certain that I would be coming home with those new hats. They did not sound any better than the ones I had so I passed. Glad I did my test. As far as loosing the bid goes, I think al9000 said it best, bid your highest and hope for the best. Plus the drum show is coming up. Im saving my cash for that! Hope to see you there Slingerland

Ha. I just won the 17" Bionic crash that the same seller had up at the same time. Paid $103.50 plus ship for a "new" floor model. Came in the bag as well.

Yes, I am a ruthless bidder when it is something I want. However, I don't have access to anything that others don't have when bidding. Not sure if you'd call me a sniper, but I rarely bid ahead of time. I only do it when I have a choice between a Buy It Now or auction price. If the Buy It Now seems reasonable but I am willing to take the risk of losing it in order to possibly getting it for less, then I bid in order to start the auction and the Buy It Now disappears.

The rest of it comes down to understanding how Ebay works. Auctions can be like poker games.
