Hey everyone,
Does someone know what's a good cello bow for bowing cymbals?
Brands? Maybe "Alfred Stingl by Höfner"...?

Yes, a cheap one. There's probably no sense buying a quality bow for using on cymbals because you'll do a number on the hairs. You just have to cake on the rosin.
I had to look this up on youtube i never heard of it. Pretty cool and you get some wild sounds. Eye Ball I'll have to try this............;)
I'd recommend using a bass bow. And, yes, cake on the rosin, and expect to do a number on the hairs. I got my first bass bow for $60 new. Cheaper ones are out there. Get one of those. Also, invest in a bow case if you're playing out with it.

Me neither! But, cool! Check out this guy who bows a cymbal resting on a tympani! This is a new one on me and other than for my own entertainment, I'd have no practical application for it in the music I play. But man, the sounds are seriously cool.

This seriously just inspired me! Awesome!
Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) had to have done some of this right?
So cool. Thanks for sharing guys. I had never heard of this as well till now.
Sounds like what they would use in Horror films also right?

I had to do this for some wind ensemble piece in college. Can't remember the name of it. I had to roll on the cymbal as well, while operating the pedal. That gives more of a growl to the sound. The bowing with the pedal sounds like ghostly shrieks. Kinda reminds me of a waterphone, but less warbly.
Have you ever bowed a Manhasset music stand? It doesn't resonate as long as a cymbal, but you get the same kind of shrieking, with a little more "bite" to it. Processed on a recording with heavy reverb sounds pretty amazing...
Man the tympani adds a real trippy layer to this~! Wicked cool. Cool1 Almost like whale sounds if you ever heard them.
yup, whale sounds....time to get a bow Walking
I kept a student violin bow in my stick bag for a long time for this purpose. It was small and cheap, so I felt freer to experiment with it. Created a higher pitched "shriek" than a full size bow.
