Ummmm.........Tony Williams didn't play on Kind of Blue. That would be Jimmy Cobb sir.

Oops. Sorry about that. Jet-lag induced brain-fade.

No problem. :D

There was an interview with Mr Cobb in one of the major drummer magazines a while back, which exact one escapes me at the moment, but he explains how that big "crash" near the beginning of "So What" was actually a happy accident! He claims he had no intention of hitting the ride cymbal that hard, but something got away from him during the take. Miles was upset about it at first, but after playing the recording back, he actually liked it in there, so they left it! Talk about getting lucky with one of the most recognizable and iconic jazz "fills" of all time!

I guess it is kind of a trick question, but it's getting me a lot of good suggestions! Keep 'em coming. I've have some of what's been suggested, but there is definitely some that I have to look into. Listening to this is really inspiring.....man I wish I wasn't working right now. I just want to go home and play!

Modern Jazz Quartet - the last concert. I remember going to the music store once a week looking at that album. I wanted to make sure it was still there until a couple months later I had enough money to buy it. I remember the sales guy telling me "good choice". I listened to that thing all the time. I just loved their sound. This was back in the 70s. I need to find that album on Itunes. . . .James

A modern thought: Anything with Dennis Chambers, Dave Weckl, Steve Smith, either Wackerman on it. Jeez. There's just so much good stuff out there (Thank you Pandora Radio).
