Who Cares?

Hey All...

If you want to sell a used kit does it matter who has played/recorded with it before?

New to the group. Not a drummer, but a lot of my best friends are!

Thanks

Yes, it does matter, as long as there is certification/documentation of the player/owner, like Moon or Rich or Bonham, or Clark or.....

Previous players/recorders is a sales pitch,...the drum don`t care although sometimes I wish they did !!

Yes, if there is a famous person(s) involved who played the drumset but in general if the drums are cool and something that a person wants and there was no provenance etc., who cares, buy those puppies! Most of the time you are going to find a cool/rare snare drum or drumset that was just owned by a workaday drummer, in this case the drums are still important.

There are very few names that would make a difference.

My feeling is that, to a player, it shouldn't matter. The sound and craftsmanship of the drums should dictate the price, not the name on it or who owned it or played it in the past. Maybe to collectors, but they are the reason drummers can't get a hold of nice unique equipment so they don't count to me. I guarantee you that if Buddy Rich had spent a year of his life endorsing the ****tiest drums ever made it wouldn't make those drums sound any better. However, some ridiculous collector would still drop $2000 on them because he played them. All a matter of perspective. You a drummer or a wall decorator?

Don`t mean to step on your toes there twelve,...but Buddy Rich could make two paper cups and a straw sound better than most drummers out there today !! He earned his status as a great, unforgetable and valued drummer !!

Eh...I dunno. The way he hit, I don't think those paper cups would last past one hit. Straw might hold up a little longer though.

I suggest you go on the net, to You-Tube and watch what people are calling the best drummers,...you`ll see countless tubes of drummers try`n to hit as many drums as fast as they possibly can to gain that tilte of ..Best Drummer !!

That`s not drumming,...it`s raceing !! Drumming is a series of beats put together into a sentence that says,...that sounded good,...not ....that was fast !!

The value placed on a persons belongings stems from how many people admired and want to be a part of that person !! If your drums are worth five bucks,...you`ve done five bucks worth of entertainment !!

I would tend to agree with that but his talent level would prevent that from happening, his approach would say so !! !!
