60's Ludwig marching snare conversion, before & after... Last viewed: 10 hours ago
That's so awesome! Love what you did with the wood hoops. Just looks bad a
Pretty sweet work, man...came out great! I restored an entire Ludwig kit from 1958 that had been abused and rewrapped (probably in the 70's) and there is such a sense of pride when I play it...or hell...even when I just look at it! I did all of the prep work, but also took mine to a drum shop to have it professionally wrapped and edges trimmed. Here is a link to mine if you wanna check it out.
Wow - great job on the '58 Blue Sparkle kit. You can be justifiably proud of those!

Agreed. I'm lucky enough to live about 30 miles from Precision Drum, so it's a no-brainer to just have them do any re-wrap jobs for me. No back-n-forth shipping charges, just gas. Plus, I can talk to George or Gary in person and show them exactly what I want done. Their prices for re-wrapping are almost ridiculously cheap, and it includes hole re-drilling and badge re-installation. Also, they take the extra time to get the seam just right & bevel-blend the wrap into the shell/bearing edge (using a router or file or whatever). As the saying goes, sometimes it just makes sense to leave certain things to the professionals.
best,

Thanks! You can justifiably be proud of your snare also!

I hear you on that! I took mine to Thrust Drums in Pasadena, CA and they also use the blending method with the wrap and the edges. The '58 is my main gigging kit now and it looks great and sounds fantastic!
