Neat snare. Over the past couple of weeks, I have been seeing a lot of these on the Bay.

I can only imagine the crack/pop this drum produces. Extremely light weight/thin shell and heavy/solid hoops. Eye Ball

The pics are from when I got it home.

Its gonna get a good cleaning in the next few days and some fresh heads, coated ambassador on top and ambassador snare underneath. It does have a butt plate screw missing so i need to source one somewhere. I'm more of a player than collector so I cant wait to try it on my next gig...

They are very nice drums. I picked one up in a local Pawn Shop last year - 70's stand and all. There was a drum key hanging off the drum via a zip-loc bag. I took the key out and plugged it in the key holder and the store employee said...'oh, that's where that goes cool!" I got the drum and stand for $75. Next to finding my late 50's Gretsch kit on C/L for $900 I think this late 70's snare drum is my best Gretsch find.

I found a round badge a few months ago and love it. The only thing I'm going to do is replace the Evans G2 batter with a coated Ambassador. The G2 is cool but I'd like to try a lighter head. Here's a link to some pics.http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=26632

That is nice - not moved back to anything roundbadge yet, but would love to. For me the coated Ambassador is the only snare head thats ever given me the snare sound I love. I tried the hazy, and even that didnt sound quite right. Here's a pic of the 70's kit I found in the junk shop that I paid $300 for - minus Gretsch snare. I've been using the Slingerland '52 maple snare you see in the second pic with it, which works really nicely and is very versatile, but I'm really looking forward to hooking the Gretsch's up!!

Beautiful kit, and for $300. You must've done somebody a good deed for that deal to come around. Looking at the snare pics, seems to me that the badges and throwoffs are the main differences. Shells are identical and tone controls. Mine has the "stick chopper" rims and looks like yours does too.

I'm off to Dale's to pick up a G1 or an Ambassador and see what happens.
