Hope this is in the right place. I got this drum on CL a few days ago and am going to attempt to post some pics now that it's cleaned up and sporting new heads. Took a while too, 40 yrs of dried wax/polish etc. gets pretty gnarly. Grantro here on the forum linked me with the key that snaps into the shell, lots of good folks here!

Speaking of the key and holder, I wasn't expecting a spring clip to pop out when I removed the internal nut/washer etc. Not being aware of this feature, all I could figure out was that the clip went into two slots 180 degrees apart but for what?
After re-assembling and tuning I finally thought to do a search here and found out just what that hole and clip are for. Duh! Heck, I thought it was a vent or exhaust port to release those toxic ozone killing cracking back beat vapors! Rookie mistake, what can I say?DOH
Hey Mick! Just found this thread. Nice score! Those round badge Gretsch snares can sound killer. Bring it with you next time you come down, I want to check it out. Congrats on a great buy.
Welcome to VDF!
