Premier Olympic kit Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Greetings. When I was in sixth grade my parents bought a set of Olympic (Premier) drums for me for Christmas. It was the best Christmas ever! 20, 12, 16 with matching snare in aquamarine sparkle. It came with an Olympic, hi-hat stand, a pair of Lokfast cymbal stands and a Camco snare stand. (I still have the snare stand by the way) I moved on to a larger Pearl set that I bought on my own a couple of years later and eventually sold my Premier kit to a student because I am sure I thought I could buy another cymbal and stand with the cash. I have always regretted that.

37 years later I started looking around on eBay for Premier kits that I could rewrap in aquamarine sparkle from Drum Supply House (the brick and mortar version of Drummaker.com). I looked for a while to find something that was beat up enough to warrant a rewrap but not so bad as to just be a horrible kit. Last year I happened to go searching again and lo and behold, the exact kit came up. Same configuration, same color, same Premier resonant head and the kick drum. Having done some research on these kits and this particular color I was surprised at how good they looked. For those that do not know, the Premier aquamarine sparkle wraps tend to fade quite badly over time. They first turn an unattractive green, then a very sickly yellow and eventually to a "dead fish grey" as some call it. All the while they are developing dark liver spots all over. These drums exhibited very little of that. So I paid way too much for it and now I have them.

The snare drum is in near mint condition exhibiting no fading whatsoever. The 12" and 16" toms are both in very good shape with only some very minor fading and one blemish on the 16". The kick drum has some mild fading a discoloration as well as a longitudinal crack where one of the spur mounts is located. The seller had done a pretty good job of repairing the crack.

Other than taking these back apart and applying a wax finish to improve the overall sheen and repainting the bass drum hoops, these drums are in pretty great shape. They sound really good as well. In the reverse shot the finish looks more green than it should. That is simply light reflecting off my green walls. I hope you guys enjoy.

Just noticed I put this post in the wrong section. Obviously these are non-USA drums. That, of course, gets us back to the post about adding a European section. Let's not revisit that!

A friend of mine bought a green silk OLy from the 60's and I got to go over them with a fine toothed comb while helping clean and re head, and those drums were nice, the workmanship and bearing edges were terrific, and they had a nice warm sound with good tone, and the snare was really nice for low volume stuff and the whole kit went to tape very nicely.

Congrats on the find, those look terrific and I bet they sound great too.
