Ludwig Power Factory Set Chrome Over Wood?

Loading...

Hi All!

I'm looking for some quick info on a Ludwig set. An old band mate of mine is asking if I would be interested in his Ludwig drum set. From what I can tell in the pictures he sent me (below) and looking at the catalog pages in the drumguide the set looks to be a Power Factory set with chrome over wood riveted wrap 10", 12", 13", 14", 15", 16", 18" floor and 24" bass. Would that be correct? 6 ply? Late 70s early 80s?

It does need a little work with two of the toms...I think the clip mounts might be missing but that's an easy fix.

Big question...what would be a fair offer price assuming wrap and hardware are in decent condition? 8 Ludwig drums and tom stands.

Below are the pictures he sent me...

Thanks guys!

Looks like a nice setup there, but the concert toms definitely hurt the value. Couldn't see any worthwhile snare in pics, is there a Luddy snare included? I would say if you could get them for 400-500 you done pretty good.

No Ludwig snare, just a couple cheapo Taiwanese. The cymbals and cymbal stands aren’t much either. The value would be in the Ludwig drums.

this is the famous riveted shells that almost put Ludwig out of business, Not a good business or design decision on Ludwig's part. 6 ply shells, great shells, but the rivets and concert toms are not a good thing. maybe $400.00 tops.

how is it that the rivets almost put them out of bussiness? I've never heard this.

as far as cocert toms go it's gotta be all about the vibe, sure it would not be a good kit for a jazz trio, but if you were in a Van Halen tribute band well then...

Concert toms can deliver as good a sound as any other design, & should not be limited to any specific genre. The rivets are unsightly , but probably not so bad for a Chrome wrap, since it doesn't shrink. I've seen many riveted toms w/ celluloid wrap that shrink & tear along the rivets. I generally avoid the riveted Ludwigs, but have never seen a problem w/ Chrome.

I see about the "plastic" pearls, I thought the Chrome-O-Wood was the only ones that got that treatment. I hear ya on the concert toms being versatile but when the shell is riveted wrapped in metal and has only one head your possibilities of a diverse sound are pretty limited.

all that being said, I would kill for an octa-plus sized set in CoW, deep sizes, modular harware, laquered inside, silverdots, 16 lugs on the 12&13" 20 lugs on the 14&15", four curved spurs on the kicks with big-ass 1" dia. pipes destroying all resonance, besides that's what reverb was for.

ok I've returned from my trip back to the 80's let me wash the Aqua-net outta my hair.

it's just too bad you cant fit a drum set in Doc Brown's DeLorean.

lifetime warranty to the original owner. A metal rivet countersunk into a wood surface??? A metal rivet vibrates and bores it way through the wrap and the shell. So once all these riveted shells started self destructing, Ludwig had to replace all of them to the original owners. the Ludwig factory is very close to my house, personal friends with the plant manager, when you take a tour of the factory. Bring up the little fact about the riveted Ludwig's and see what type of response you get from him, I quote, He simply stated that was the one move that almost brought us to our knees Ludwig. end of quote. Geez I'm sorry clubdate64 that Ludwig didn't send you the memo explaning this!?!?!
