I'm thinking of picking up some vintage cymbal stands for my Luddies. I love the look. Any suggestions on what to get? I don't even know where to start. I'd probably just grab three cymbal stands and maybe a hi hat stand at some point. This is my usual setup for both jazz and rock/r&b.
Vintage cymbal stands? Last viewed: 6 seconds ago
i always like to get the correct ones for the era of my drums. the 1400 flat base stands work well and were used for years. depending on the year of your drums, the hi hat stands can vary. ludwig made an 1123-1 for many years,60's-70's. they can usually be found at good prices as well.

Good advice, Mike. Mine would be for 60s era Luddies...
the early 60's used the wfl flat based 1121 speed king hi hat stand. they can usually be had for less than 100. then early to mid 60's used the 1123 stand which is often referred to as the ringo stand. these are flat based but with a spurlock pedal. 200-300 usually. then in the mid 60's and later, the 1123-1 stand was used. there are tons of these out there. they have the spurlock pedal but are not flat based. often se these in the 50-75 range. ive got one of each and they all play great.

Mike, your'e a gentleman and a scholar! Great info. As much knowledge as I've gathered about the actual drums, I've completely ignored this area up to this point. LOL.
you are quite welcome. ive spent lots of times gathering period correct accessories for the kits that i have. makes it feel complete to me. plus its a lot of fun i think.

This might be treason, but the new Ludwig flat-based stands are GREAT! I had some older flat-based Ludwigs, and they were prone to stripping and "walking". The new ones are the same weight, are sturdier, convey the same "look", and are cheaper and easier to find. I'm converted.
1965 Ludwig Hollywood
1970 Ludwig Jazzette
ive seen the pics of those and read some reviews. i think that they would be great and right in line with what you have and what you are looking for.

I use the 1400 Stands with all my vintage kits and modern jazz kit's. They just look right, easy placement, and functionality is fine. Also the 1123-1 hi hat stand I still have from my 1971 Hollywood set. I use a vintage Atlas Snare stand. These stands fold up compact and fit in my small vintage H&B rolling fibre trap case. I have vintage Atlas and Hercules tom and cymbal stands but don't haul them around much anymore.
One more treasoness Ludwig suggestion:
I love the late60s/early70s Ludwig Standard cymbal stand and snare stand (NOT the hi-hat or pedal). They are excellent quality and can be had for cheap when compared to the classic Luddy stands. Fact is, they are almost the same exact build, Mickey Mouse ears and all. The little round piece at the bottom gives them a nice finished look.
