Camco Snare Drum - Help Identifying

From DolFan54

Aristocrats are worth more as Tuxedo drums were a budget line although being the same shell and 8 lugs it's hard to really see the drum as anything less than pro IMO. I've had numerous of each and I actually prefer the Tuxedo snares. I don't know what it is but they just sound better. I've got some Aristocrats in my collection that sound amazing but I've also been through many before finding the ones in my current collection.

Thanks very much for the clarification. I've also got a Geo.H.Way Aristocrat, and I'd be hard-pressed to say which drum sounds better. Being a completist though, I'd like to have a a Camco Aristocrat as well.

Thanks again.

The George Way Aristocrat sounds different and I absolutely love my GW Aristocrats! The reason is that GWs are 5.5x14 where Camcos are 5x14.

1957 George Way BDP 26" concert bass drum
1959 George Way BDP 22/12/16 w/ 5.5x14
1959 George Way Green Sparkle 22/12/16 w/5.5x14
1961 George Way Blue Sparkle 20/12/15
1961 George Way Jelly Bean 20/12/14 w/4.5x14
1960’s Camco Oaklawn Champagne 20/12/14/16w/5x14

> What is the wrap on your Camco kit.

It's a kit composed of Oaklawn orphans. All pieces I bought separately over a two year period. They were wrapped in red glass originally but I accidentally scraped the floor tom, badly. Instead of rewrapping a single drum, I opted to use a long discontinued wrap I had called, Abalone'. I had three full sheets, just enough to do the entire kit. The wrap hasn't been available for more than 10 years. My Camco orphans are officially a one-of-a-kind set. I'm very happy with how they turned out. The drums sound amazing. Best 'sounding' drums I've ever owned/played. They have made me a die-hard Oaklawn Camco lover.

Too many great drums to list here!

How much interest do you think forum members might have in this snare? I have to be honest, I'm stoked that I found it, but it also do have all that much value to me. I'd like to keep it, but I'm already needing to get rid of drums I've collected that won't be able to stay with me(like my Ludwig Mark Times I listed here for sale), and I don't want it to go into storage or be just left sitting there. I'm really happy I found it and I would love to keep it, but I'm not sure I can keep it knowing someone might get good use out of it. Moving into an apartment for at least a few years has really got me limited on space, and I still need to get rid of some stuff. The last thing I need is the girl telling me I can't keep this and getting mad about it. I'd rather just get rid of it to someone who might appreciate it a lot and use it. If it was the right color(s), I don't know that I could get rid of it, but I'm not that fond of the red sparkle, and I'd rather get a different snare with this money once I move out of my apartment.

I really like Abalone, Baloney.

Hard to find, like that nice "purpley" wrap.

Good wrapping Mr. Shuffley
