Trying to get a feel for the year on my vintage BOP Ludwig kit. Got these about a year ago. Interiors are not painted. Badges are keystone style with no serial. The bass tom mount is the center piece ala Hollywood style. The floor tom legs are straight down. Let me know if any other details might be needed. My guess is late 50s to early 60s, but really not sure when Ludwig started making black oyster wraps.

Probably '60-'63. They don't have transition badges do they?

Ahha....must be transition badge. It's the keystone with blue ink and Chicago, no serial...
'58 to '59 officially. I imagine some showed up in '60 and later, though.

Very good period for drums, by the way. Ringo hadn't thrown the drum world into a frenzy yet. Quality control was higher pre-'64. It was still good after, but they started throwing drums together after Ringo and The Beatles caused a flood of young'uns to put in orders for music gear, and you can find various inconsistencies after that. But I am in no way trying to say they weren't any good after that. I traded a DW kit recently for my '67 Ludwigs - which have one or two not-so-perfect spots - and I am SO happy I did. I'm finally hearing tones from my drums that I've always had in my head. My old drum kits have cured me of wanting new ones...except for maybe one, or two. Cool Dude I'm rambling now...

Amen to that, Slinger! Pre-Ringo era Luddys are pretty darn good...and my '58's and '63's would have to agree!

Sweet. They sound awesome, I've gigged them two times so far...the bassist loved the sound and gave compliments. These are keepers.
yeah i have a transition badge kit dated may 1960 on all 3 drums so theres a lot of give and take in the dating with that badge.
Hey ADG! Can you post a pic? Jumping2 I'd love to see them...I'm sure others would like to see them too. Sounds like a real sweet kit! Cool Dude
