1934-36 6.5x14 SLINGERLAND BLACK ENAMEL/ARTGOLD BROADCASTER MODEL

Loading...

Hi,

And yet another Slingerland Broadcaster enters The Curotto Collection! A special thanks goes to Bill Wanser for his help with this drum.

1934-36 6.5x14 SLINGERLAND BLACK ENAMEL/ARTGOLD BROADCASTER MODEL

The Shell:

The solid maple shell's interior is in great shape with no issues. The Black Enamel is also in great shape with a few minor dings that were easy to cover up. The cloud badge is clean and the grommet is tight. All that was needed was a very light cleaning.

The Hardware:

The hardware is finished in the later, more gold looking Slingerland Artgold (as opposed to the earlier copper and gold lacquered 1920s Artgold) that is similar to Ludwig & Ludwig's 1932 finish that was called Classic Gold. All of the hardware is in great shape and required only a simple cleaning. The tension rod threads were the dirtiest but still cleaned up well. The top rim has a nice clean "Slingerland USA" stamp as does the strainer extension lever and snare bridges. The snare gates have the familiar manufacturer's cartouche that are marked "34" once on one side and "34" twice on the other side of the bottom rim. There is a drum key holder with a 1920s-30s Slingerland drum key that was nickel plated so I had Les and Brian Hadnagy of Avenue Plating match everything to the Artgold, they nailed it! Stuff has got to match in my world.

Of-the-era calf heads and era-correct Snappi wires rounded out this cleaning.

This was an easy one.

Enjoy!

The way I have it in my mind is to have Vol. II be both an extension of Vol. I and with many of the rare plastic/pearl finishes of the 1920s-40s...

Why can't modern drums look that classy? I'm honestly asking. Why? It's clear that that drum is on a whole other level of cool and you can tell it from a mile away....but what exactly is it? If anyone knows, then please tell modern drum makers to start incorporating it into their drums, because this is just on a WHOLE other level and it's at least 76 years old.

Nice drum
