I also agree with not having an auction. I have stuff I would like to get rid of and sell but on C/L. Ebay is pain and I dont do that hardly ever. C/L you never know who will show up, if they do. It would be nice to have somekind of store front set up on this forum that any member could go to and buy stuff but it would still have to be maintained by someone.

I say we have a swapmeet/ meet greet each other say in like Illinois (tee-hee) and we can see and buy each others gear in person. But then, how does everyone settle on a date and location?

For now the current procedure works fine, just know who you are dealing withright?

I personally don't like the auction format, I think it is promoting the dismantling and orphaning of great drums and kits. I hate seeing the greed from sellers looking for 50.00 dollars to ship a 50.00 dollar drum or listing for a cloud badge for 100.00.

I view these forums as more of a community where we can share knowledge, make friends, ask questions and enjoy a niche in the music world we call Vintage drumming.

Pros:

• No eBay

• No CL

• Trusted, Knowledgeable Sellers

Cons:

• Dissension among members (as if this doesn't exist)

• Tension among members (as if this doesn't exist)

• Fill in the blank _____________ among members (as if this doesn't exist)

I agree that it should be put to a vote. Has no one considered that if you don't want to participate in an auction, YOU DON"T HAVE TO!

This is something that should be decided by the forum as a whole, not the "Policy Police"...it makes me insane that so many things is this world are decided by the vocally offended & not the silent majority! Soap Box

i see both points of concern from everyone. i stopped selling on ebay long ago and do better selling on my own, so i understand that point much better.

if there were a auction on this site, do you stick to only vintage drums and parts? or do you do all things drum related?

the new owner of dfo already has drumsell.com. when he took over dfo he took away the drums for sale section of his site and required that everyone sell thru his site. i understand his idea and its logical, but everyone got upset about it so he brought it back quick. that could happen here too if the for sale section was to be taken away.

i think the idea of a drums and drum related auction site that caters to all drum forums and users only is great (atleast in the beginning then allow others not on the forums, or however someone wants to make that decision)

the reason is because most of us have delt with each other and know the players (atleast my username) and it would be like a community only site(generally speaking) were there's a built in trust factor. maybe in the beginning your allowed to sell based on how long you've been a active member of any forum. atleast in the beginning.

i'm just thinking out loud right now. built in trust from the users is something any auction site does not have. but it is a tricky thing to do because if there's a bad deal, you run the risk of losing not only sellers on the site but forum members.

well it seems to me that even though this is a select few members here who are trying to sell there drum items it is also shark invested waters here! when one of us scores a deal we all jump for joy and wish we could find the deal first we are all addicted to the chase, on the flip side, when we sit on our kits for a while because there are circumstance that make it hard for the owner to sell it as they have too much $ in the drums and then they have to take a loss on them or some members help by praising the drums so yes i see the brotherhood we have here would be back sided, but there is a upside to this as there is not a drum only related auction site and it could be world wide....

if good will could do it! i can see some of the members point of view, this would stop a lot of one hit wonders from coming and going and also it would stop some of the preying mantis from low balling some one to flip to a foreign concern or private source (to each there own) even if we have the right to say no if it was more of a bidding situation . i dont know maybe it was a stupid thread i started just a geezer barking

It's not a stupid thread Jag, it's like anything else...if you don't want to participate, you don't have to...just ignore it. If you want to, go forth at your own risk. Not really complicated, could actually make it a paid membership option & a .5-1% sales fee back to the site to administer software boogers. If you participate, you're on your own, just like selling thru the site...this is not rocket science guys!...it's, You bid, I bid, Auction over. I grew up around this, as in all things these days we the offended have to "regulate it, tax it, over-think it & screw it up"...it's a damn auction! JEEEEZZZZZZ

With all due respect to our fine membership... and I'm not being facetious as we DO have an excellent membership!... vote or not, yay or nay, David has the final word/decision. It's his site. If he feels this is not the place or the time to implement an auction feature, that will be that! Now I'm not speaking for him here, not at all!... I'm just saying that it will ultimately be HIS decision regardless. Just sayin'.

I see this as both pro and con...

Yep, a vote will decide.

And, while the vote is going on, accept no new members.
