I wish I had a tape of that whole Ed Sullivan show of The Beatles first performance. I wonder if that WMP set was for another performance group and they didn't take time to move it for rehearsals? A good friend of mine was on the show that night performing with the cast of "Oliver". He told me while he was watching The Beatles rehearsals and show that night he thought to himself, hmmm I think I would like a little piece of that action. He said they were really great. and he did go on to get a big piece of that action a couple of years later.. I am going to ask and find out more about that night the next time I see him.

I think it was just long enough to rehearse for the first Sullivan show 2/9/64.

I wish I had a prize for you!

"Vanna, what do we have for our winner today?"

"Jim, he's won an all-expenses paid trip to the Racoon National Cemetary in Bismark, North Dakota!"

Too many great drums to list here!

Woo-hoo! I've never won anything before! While the RNC sounds lovely how about I just take the WMP set pictured with Ring-man?

I wouldn't mind having that one myself. The kit must drip mojo from all the amazing players that sat down behind it over the years.

John,

I’m sure you can confirm this but wasn’t the WMP kit the result of Manny’s Music mistakenly delivering that to the Ed Sullivan theater instead of the black oysters? How do you screw something like that up for a group that was creating such a buzz at the time? Every picture I’ve seen with Ringo sitting behind those WMP’s he looks so god-awfully miserable…maybe it’s because part of the hoop inlay was missing?

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I went back and looked at the photo again, he does look unhappy! He's looking down at the stage-hand (working over by the hi-hat pedal) and he looks miserable.

I'd heard that story about Manny's. If true, it would show monumental incompetence on the part of Manny's. BTW, I -lived- inside Manny's on the week-ends. Myself and a some of my musician buddies would go down there and check out whatever new gear had arrived during the week. Used to be a great place to shop.
