I'm sorry but I TOTALLY DISAGREE!!!! Bonham is rated the way he is because he is the best heavy rock drummer to ever walk the planet, he was Innovative, tasteful, powerful, Had a very unique style and a very unique sound, which everyone has tried to copy!! and played to the song. by his own admission he stated he could played harder and louder without drumsticks just his bare hands, which he easily proved. there where only 4 men in led zeppelin there was no room for a slouch or slacker, John Henry Mop's the floor with anyone else!!Yes Sir

yes i agree and you try the timing on black dog see how long it takes any one here to learn it if its so easy to come up with that kind of progressive rock those songs are tough to play and he as one of the first in that era to do it and i have to say one of kind just like the rest of the great drummers from that period they all had to be innovative as it was all new since then it s still a genre that's is played, copied and redone over and over again today the songs are timeless

ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ahhhhhhhhhhh oh baby

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

The Dead actually hold the all time record for TOURING sell outs... Elvis holds the one number spot in Vegas, the list goes on, but Grateful Dead own the top spot for selling out more stadium shows and Arenas than anyone else could ever even imagine....let Mickey and Billy rock your world. Oh, don't forget Jerry, Bobby and Phil, and whoever happened to show for the keys.Chewie:

You got to read the fine print my brother lol I only sais they did it in the 70's they also sold out shea stadium in less than 72 hours it took the Beatles 2 weeks... and yes they had 10 straight gold albums not bad for a garage band from Flint Michigan.. :)

OK...I surrender!...you can stop bashing me now! LoLoLoLo

I think the most interesting thing about John, is that the discussions of anything about him, mic set-up, drumheads, kits (as this one started out), technical ability (or lack there of) or his larger than life persona, always turns into a very passionate/heated debate. If nothing else, this makes him important to drummers & to the history of drumming. The only other drummer that I know of that even comes close to stirring this kind of passion is Buddy Rich...and Bonzo was no Buddy Rich...Buddy (IMHO) was the greatest player to ever hold a pair of sticks! But, they were very much alike...both had the ego & swagger that would never allow them to be mediocre...both had unbelievable chops & imagination on their instrument & both were larger than life and lived their lives on the edge. John was just self destructive...who knows what he would be playing now if he had lived. It would have been interesting to see him do a couple tunes at the Buddy Rich Tribute Concert!...I think he would have brought the house down...his ego wouldn't allow him to be anything but the best.

Question? Who care's about Bonham sets away..I don't i think he is a over rated drummer...Mikey

Bonham had "IT" and that was a swing to his playing style from being traditionaly schooled in swing and big band jazz, and you can see he automatically picks up the sticks with traditional grip in the video clip where he sits down at his childhood drumset.... All the so called rock drummers that were 1st jazz drummers have a certain style or sound, hard to explain but better than just a 4/4 drummer...Bonham regardless of what he played, was always swinging playing with the tension and release between the bass drum and snare... Not many drummers can even imitate that feel...

Bonham is for the drums what Hendrix is for the electric guitar...Yes Sir

I have to politely disagree. Mitch Mitchell was drumdom's Hendrix. Bonham, agreed, was/is more of an icon than Mitch. But Mitch was the one hanging with Jimi, and working off of all his writing and recording creativity; they invented recording methods and effects. Mitch also had the technical ability to do so. Again, I love what Bonzo did, but not the same caliber as Mitch.....to me. (Hoping not to offend.) Perhaps just a style preference.

RIP, both legends. Both were innovators

I politely disagreed and mentioned the icon status. Thought I was clear.

I don't like stating opinions like they're facts. All the drummers mentioned above are great! I love Keith Moon's drumming, John Bonham's drumming, Mitch Mitchell's, Buddy Miles', Bill Bruford, Elvin, Buddy, on and on and on...The musical world isn't a vacuum, and it would be boring if these players hadn't played.. BTW I love Don Brewer's drumming too! And Mickey Hart!

About Bonham, I totally enjoyed his bombast, and his tact! None of the mentioned drummers including Ringo were accidental rock stars.
