Dang Mikey, just a legend in everyone else's mind...I honestly feel. at the risk of being thrown out of the forum, the same as you. He was the first recognized "power drummer" and for that I commend him, but as far as do I think he was the best ever...not really. Just an iconoclastic rock star, and if I ever run up on one of his personal kits....I'll get rich selling it!
Those were Thermogloss natural Maple drums.
Indeed Thermo Gloss... Just lighting...... JHB yes I agree overrated and gets credit for alot of stuff he did not invent, but he played in Led Zep and he was probably the most high profile power drummer of all time and his beats were some killer stuff , his triplets came from carmine Appiece the real first power drummer and many drummers were more technical , Ginger baker, Don Brewer,
Ansley Dunbar, Cozy Powell, But I have to admit I love listening to Bonham Play as his style is how like like to play myself...
Arguably the most influential drummer ever. He stole stuff (just like Zeppelin did), of course. But I love the sound of the guy. I sometimes think that Buddy would have been happy to sit down and play JB's drums, nice and tight.
My favorite drum fill ever is at the end of Misty Mountain Hop, right after the line "Over the hills where the spirits fly"...starts with a four beat roll. The guy just wails!

I'm sorry but I TOTALLY DISAGREE!!!! Bonham is rated the way he is because he is the best heavy rock drummer to ever walk the planet, he was Innovative, tasteful, powerful, Had a very unique style and a very unique sound, which everyone has tried to copy!! and played to the song. by his own admission he stated he could played harder and louder without drumsticks just his bare hands, which he easily proved. there where only 4 men in led zeppelin there was no room for a slouch or slacker, John Henry Mop's the floor with anyone else!!Yes Sir
haha gonzo agrees- go figure! Was Bonham the most technical? No, everyone knows that. Overrated? No way.. Sometimes it's not what you play fellas, it's the way you play it. It's the character you lay into the music. His sound is arguably the most iconic drum sound ever. There is something to be said for that.
