I have to side with VM2K on this,...Growing up I didn`t have a TV or couldn`t really get tickets to concerts and just by listening to him thought , just another unique drummer.....until I saw him play,....at any given time, durring any given number,...he could throw away his sticks and play with his hands and feet and unless you could see him,...you wouldn`t know the difference.

I want the name of the other drummer that could do that !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Bonzo was much-much more than a power rock drummer, the guy had amazing technique & finesse...yeah, he was powerful, but he was powerful because he was a very large man. This guy idolized people like Gene Krupa, Max Roach & Buddy Rich!...if you really sit down & listen to what he was doing, you can hear these influences. I used to poo-poo him also & THOUGHT I could play anything he played...that was before I got a set of high end headphones...you know what?, I was wrong. Saw an interview with Jason right before he was about to do the Zepplin reunion tour. He said he thought he knew how to play all his dad's stuff...he was wrong also. Jimmy Paige had to show him how to play "Rock n' Roll" correctly...said it absolutely wore him out every time he played it. I challenge all of you to sit down with a good set of phones & chart out what you hear...all of the ghost notes on not only the snare but the feathering of the bass drum. The guy was no rock slammer, he was a master of his craft...his craft just happened to be Rock n' Roll.

A drummers job is to keep time, compliment all the other players around him/her & to make the band sound good...this guy did all of those better than anyone has before or after his death!

Oh, BTW...Don Brewer?...Don "lost rhythm section" Brewer?...Don "worst live player ever" Brewer??? That name should not even be on the planet as Bonzo's, much less the same post! JEEEZZZZZ Don BrewerDOH

Alot of people don`t give Kieth Moon much talent either,... He had it and is the only drummer I`ve ever seen playing with Bonham on Bonham`s kit together on stage at the same time !!

I know of no other drummer allowed to do that with John !! If there is,...I`ve never heard of it !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Plus 1! Keith was truly insane but so was his playing!...great drummer! Sort of ironic that Ringo's son ended up being the drummer for the Who & Jason played on the Zepplin Reunion concerts!...on top of that, they grew up together & are friends. IMO, Zep & The Who are the 2 most Iconic bands from the late 60's-70's and these 2 kids ended up behind the wheel that drove them! I heard a broadcast of the first concert that Zac played live with The Who & that SOB can play his A$$ off...actually thought it was an old recording of Keith playing...Zac is a monster! Sorry to say (I know I'm gonna get bashed for this) but Zac is better than his dad ever thought about being. Ringo (IMHO) just wanted to be a celebrity...how many times have we seen this guy play seriously with a band in the last 40 years? Yeah, he did the all star crap but really guys, how serious do you think he took that crap? Zac, on the other hand is a great drummer!...much better than his dad ever was.

OK...go ahead and bash me!

I'm sorry but I TOTALLY DISAGREE!!!! Bonham is rated the way he is because he is the best heavy rock drummer to ever walk the planet, he was Innovative, tasteful, powerful, Had a very unique style and a very unique sound, which everyone has tried to copy!! and played to the song. by his own admission he stated he could played harder and louder without drumsticks just his bare hands, which he easily proved. there where only 4 men in led zeppelin there was no room for a slouch or slacker, John Henry Mop's the floor with anyone else!!Yes Sir

I agree with almost everything.I still remember being 14 years old,and hearing the first album for the first time.I played Good Times Bad Times over and over, because I just could not believe my ears...the broken triplet...his drum sound...the powerful fills.I was already listening to Buddy, Morello,Bellson,Baker,Appice,Mitchell ect.,but this guy was just over the top.

To me the things that make a great drummer, are swing, musicality, chops out of the ordinary, a unique sound, and playing for the music.Bonham had that in spades.

Having said that...to me there is no best, just guys I in my own opinion love to listen to.So for Bonzo nor anyone else gets the title of best, but the most influential hard rock drummer,no doubt.Ringo has his own place on my list.

That name would be Fito de la Parra if you do not know who he is you must be young so google him I am 100% sure you have heard of his band Canned Heat been playing since 1966 he is the very best with his hands I have ever seen and I have seen all the greats check him out..

Im agreeing with you.. Until you got to the Zac starkey thing.

He does well with the who. but just well.

I know alot of people say play the way YOU play, dont copy others, but with the who, a band who had an iconic drummer such as moon, its kinda essential.

the 9/11 concert for NYC came on this year on 9/11/11 and when the who came on I had to walk out of the room. Im not really a big headed person, but I learned how to play drums with who records playing in my headphones and I think Zac starkey is missing ALOT of essential licks in those tunes.
