Hi,

This is not my area of expertise so help me out please...I am selling this drumset for a good friend...1970s Slingerland blonde, all original Bop sizes 18, 12, 14...no extra holes, no mods, less than normal wear...

Thanks in advance.

Mike,

Since this is my "dream" kit, let me be the first to say that I'm sure that nobody but me would have any interest in it and, therfore, as the first respondent I should be offered an unbelievable deal on this one. Right? Well, I just thought that it was worth trying!Excited

Would your good friend consider any trade possibilities for this one? Just wondering.

Any kit in the bop config is going to do well but slingerland

seems less popular than ludwig and gretsch. Still that kit looks

in excellent condition. I'd say $1500-2000. If it was gretsch

you could easily double that figure.

Sorry, he's moving to Thailand and needs to liquidate.

May God! Beautiful drums. I absolutely hate the choice of drum heads. But what a kit.

Mike, best bet is to throw it up on the bay and see what price he market sets. Something like this doesn't come up very often. Difficult to set a price. But I'll bet it'll pass the $1500 mark in an open bidding situation. Rare sizes.

Could surprise...

Those ratty old things?

I do believe that you live in the bay area. I'm in the central valley (near Fresno).

So the good thing about these are that I could drive up and get them out of his way. I'll even be kind of magnanimous and won't charge a thing to haul them off...

I know, I know... I'm kind to a fault. It's just the way I was raised...

I absolutely hate the choice of drum heads.

Why? That's a pure jazz kit, meant to be tuned on the high side. Maybe the owner needed a little more attack out of the drums. In which case, the choice of the clear pinstripes is a smart pick! Pinstripes can make a drum sing too! Depends on what sound you're looking for. But it wasn't an out-of-hand 'bad choice' of heads.

That said, I agree with you that coated heads would be better sounding and more appropriate for a jazz kit especially if you plan to use brushes. I just thought your call on the guy's choice of heads was a little harsh... I can see situations where he might legitimately prefer the sound of the pinstripes.

It seems like Bop configs are getting stupid money,Gretsch of course, but I have seen a couple of Mahog stain ludwig Jazzettes bring 1200.00 + when the finish was in bad shape, another when the finish was fair and kit had some X holes.I would agree they should bring 1500.00 2000.00 also.

Just not a fan of pinstripes (or clear oil filled heads in general). Beatiful drums though. With some coated Aquarians, I bet they'd sing.
