Corders Drums

Loading...

I ran across a CORDERS drum kit this week-end and was wondering if this brand has any collectible value?

I don't know anything about them and I'm trying to find out what a five piece kit (bass, double rack toms, snare & floor tom) in decent shape might be worth.

THANKS in advance!D' Drummer

Did that drum set have the "Fibes" tom lugs? It's my understanding that when Fibes went under in the 70's, Corder purchased the tool and dies. (later, Darwin purchased the Fibes tool and dies) I have seen some Corder kits on Ebay, with the Fibes' lugs, in the Fibes section, but, they do not sell at high values. So, in my opinion, the Corder drums are not a high value, collectable drum. I have not played on the Corder kits, but the old Fibes and the new Fibes (Austin, Texas) is great stuff. Here's a picture of my son playing a Fibes kit, (the only one I have, sorry), take a look at the lugs, to see if they match.

Yes, the lugs do match.

The kit I looked at had a white finish on it.

Yours certainly looks much "cleaner".

THANKS for your input!

I forgot to add something, just because the drums are not a collector's piece, that doesn't mean the drums are not good. I have owned a few Fibes items from different time periods and they all sound great. I can also vouch for the Darwin product, which I was able to play on, before my Fibes purchases. There is a chance that the Corder drums could be a good product at the right price. The drag about all of these companies is that, they are not very well known, hence, the low values on Ebay. I can talk to I am blue in the face about the hand crafted, Jasper shells (can't get them anymore), mostly (if not all) American made parts on my Fibes, but, if the general public is not aware, it doesn't matter. That's the sad part.

Super B:

No, although I did see those. Very nice!

The ones i saw were on a local craigslist. As I stated previously, they had a white finish and the gentleman was asking $500 for the kit. I can't find the listing now so perhaps he sold them.

Super B:

I've found the pics of the drums and have asked the Webmaster to post them for you. The pics aren't the best but it appears that the toms aren't drilled for lugs on the bottom sides. This seems a bit strange to me. Your kit is obviously MUCH CLEANER than this one. Any idea what you think this particular kit might be worth?

Thanks in advance for your input!D' Drummer

The cool part-it looks like the snare has the Fibes SFT strainer. This strainer kind of acts like the Rogers Dyna-sonic, without the frame. Very easy to use. With the right heads you can suite the concert toms to what you like. Clear 1 ply heads to make them sing, 2 ply coated to mellow them out, it's up to you. I bet this kit could sound real good. This set looks beat up, I would not think there is a high money value for this drum set. Can you get the kit for $75? $100 max. That's what I would offer, the problem is that the owner might have paid a great deal for this drum set originally. Again, Fibes, Darwin, and Corder do not SELL (I know what the buy now is, that's different) at high values. (this is a recent link to a Fibes kit that did not sell at all. Looks great, sounds great, but..http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230212768697&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=013) If this Corder drum set was on Ebay, I can see it going from $75-$200, the $200 for that one crazy person who has to win that auction. I did a search for completed Corder auctions. The sell prices are pretty low, there' some toms that look great that went for $60. There was a chrome over maple snare that went for $66.

For what it's worth, the Kit in question looks like their 4000, but was more than likely called another name as well, probably the "Prelude." The image below is from an undated Catalog that probably dates to 1988 or before, by 1989 Corder dropped the number designations and gave their Outfits non-numerical names like, "Prelude" etc...........

Interesting Co., it looks as is they offered the option of buying Shells & Hardware and "building" your own Kit, which they called "Do-It-Yourself Wood Shells." It appears as if they also offered full line refinishing services, which included re-cutting Bearing Edges............

To provide a little more information, the other Outfits in the same Catalog that the 4000 was in listed were the, 5000, 5500 & 6000 Series, but these were all double-headed Kits...............

All Catalog images shown in my posts were generated by me (scanning) and are from my personal files........

Wow, concert toms from 1989. What was the list price for the 4000?
