Ludwig Muffler screw under the knob or over the knob??? Last viewed: 3 minutes ago

Loading...

This is probably a stupid question. I just recieved 4 small knob mufflers to complete some ludwig snares I have that are missing mufflers. I already have 3-4 large knob ones. I thought that All my ludwig snares have the mounting screw under the muffler knob, but after examinin them I noticed some have the screw on top of the knob and some have the screw under the knob. These mufflers I got in have the screw on top of the knob. WTF????

lololol I have some large knob mufflers and thought the reason they didnt work right was because the bend of the spring steel. I thought the small knob has a different bend than the large knob. Now I have all these worthless mufflers.

Parts are never worthless! but I understand the frustration:D

Ok now I feel really stupid. I inspected my snares and most of them take the muffler with the screw on top. The larger hole is the bottom hole, which would indacate the screw goes on top, so these mufflers are actually what I needed in the fist place! baby crawl2

Not sure of the year.

I have a 68 Supra and 68 Super Sensitive and both of their mufflers mount with the screw on the bottom.

The 70s Acrolite I own has the top mounting screw muffler.

But I have a Ludwig marching snare with the Monroe NC Keystone badge and it was missing it's muffler and it took one with a bottom mounting screw.

So who knows when they switched.

I just inventoried all my luddy snares. Searial numbers, badges, yr, muffler config. best I can tell most acros have small knobs untill you get to the b/w badge, then its large knob. The screw position is a mystery though. The screw is over the knob on a 69 and under on another 69 as far as acro's go, but all my wood snares from 60-72 the screws are under the knob.

The 72 vistilite snare has the screw over the knob. And all have large knobs except my pre=serial keyston snare. This study included 8 acro's, 1 supra, 1 SS, 5 wood, and 1 vista. Next time I buy a muffler, you can bet your ass i wont get the wrong one!!! LoLoLoLo
