Great thread that keeps on going... Here's a pic that shows the interior of the clear 3-ply shell of my 12x18, along with the period and year correct Supra (added later).

Beauties for sure.
What year are those? Early enough in the B/O badge era that they aren't cortex finish. The '75 catalog uses the same picture as they had used since the '71 catalog of natural mahogany but the fine print says "mahogany cortex illustrated" . I wonder if that led to any later buyers being disappointed by the wrapped "natural finish" drums they received instead of what the catalog showed.

Thanks K.O. - This is a 1972 Jazzette, with a '72 Supra. I agree on the finish. These are mahogany Thermogloss which are pretty rare, though the finish on these is by no means "Showroom". But while it has some flakes and chips (which I translate to mojo and was a major consideration in purchasing them) I'm not sure I would have pulled the trigger on a mahogany cortex had it been available. They're still nice but it's a different look for sure. But to your point, if I ordered the natural mahogany new, and got shipped a mahogany cortex, I would not have been thrilled...except with the sound!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

OK, here is the 14 x 18 'Jazzaire' I scored, before and after. No extra holes on the shell.

The interior had already been repainted in white, was covered in sloppy brown stain and scratched up - the date stamp was long painted over so I repainted the inner shell. Scored all the period correct hardware and finished yesterday. Bummer of a mishap on my wrap job, the first time I wrapped everything was going perfectly and then the other side of the drum wrap flipped up and made contact. I had to pull it apart so I could start over and ended up with a little wave in the wrap on the stage right side of the drum. Other than that, everything went pretty well. I can totally live with this.

Today is 'Jazzaire' Saturday, playing all day. GREAT SOUNDING DRUM and sounds perfect with my 8x12, 14x14 and matching Super Classic snare.
