Wow! Lucky for you! And the back of the wrap will hide.
Great! I agree, use the swivo mount.

John, Yep, she's very classy!
fishwaltz, very lucky. The wrap is just pretty...
You're right John. When you think about it, it was a common practice to use the Rogers mounts in the sixties, seventies as an upgrade, so it really is a part of the "vintage feel" to this kit. Saves a lot of $$ too, instead of filling and re-wrapping.
I will post pics of the rest of the this kit tomorrow.
thx again friends,

I have a pristine piece of champane sparkle that came off of a 14x10 it is like new if you can use it let me know..
Hi Mike,
Thanks for your offer. Sure I could use it, possibly for a tom. PM sent.
Reversing the wrap? Isn't there a white coating on the reverse side of the wrap? The 60's Burgundy Sparkle RB that I cleaned up and repaired a small tear in the wrap had a white plastic coating on the reverse side.
Be careful when you flip it over and attach it to the shell. It's been shaped and glued to the shell this way for almost 50 years. It might brittle and the automotive paint is not going to make it anymore flexible. See if you can flatten the wrap down with something heavy for a while. Then slowly and carefully roll it up with the sparkle on the outside and leave it sit for a little while more. Take your time, so you don't snap the wrap. This should also help make it a little easier when you re-attach it to the shells.

Tim,
Thanks. Do you have pics of your restoration?
The wrap is still very supple and not brittle. I think the automotive paint actually preserved it quite well. I will follow your tips though.

This is perhaps a dumb question from a guy who was barely average in geometry classes. If you use the flip side of the wrap, won't the holes for the mounts be in reverse positions on the shell? This would not likely be a problem for the lugs which are evenly spaced aound the shell. But, what about the holes for the spurs ending up on the wrong edge? What about the tom mount now being on the right side rather than the left? Am I just not visualizing this properly? I also did not know that original Champagne Sparkle wrap did not have a solid color backing. This old coot learns something new each day.
Good points...
I tried the wrap on the tom and it does work. The only problem is the muffler holes don't quite line up. they are about 1/8" out on one side. The over-sized knobs and screw washers will cover this. For some reason there are no holes for the tom clip mount in the 13" shell? I know there should be four holes. I checked the shell for a fill-in job but there was none! The only holes in the tom shell were for the Roger's tom mount! Could it be that this kit was ordered virgin for the purpose of installing a Rogers mounting system? I don't think Gretsch would have installed the Rogers mounts.
I have removed the wrap from the bass which may present a problem as you say with the spur mounts.
I will keep you posted.

Hi Kelly.
First of all:
1) I agree 100% with the other guys, flip the wrap over, and remount the swivels. Dont drill any new holes. You are lucky, the wrap is in great shape.
2) I did this with a Gretsch drum and some of the holes in the wrap were now in the wrong place, like the spur holes. If this happens, you may have to cut small pieces of patches and glue them on the wrap to cover them. Its not a big deal. Make them circular so they do not show. Just dont drill any new holes in the shell.
3) What you need to be carefull about is that the wrap was "bent" one way for 50 years, now your bending it the other way. it will want to come up. This means you need to use Glue and not tape, AND, for each drum, after the wrap is glued down you need to use twine, or belts, or duct tape to keep the seam tight while it dries. If you dont, the seam will likely come apart because the wrap was bent the other way all those years.
4) Even with some small patches, your drums are going to look fantastic with the "new" wrap. Best of all, this wont cost you much, just alot of time.
Good luck and be sure to post pics!!

I have attached pics of the floor tom wrap damage. The first is with the wrap still attached and the second is after I trimmed it off. I don't have pics after I re-attached it. The head and hoop cover most of this section, so you really don't see it. With the wrap being smashed down for about 10 years, it was a chore getting it to straighten out and line up. It's not perfect, but I didn't have too many choices.
