ok no standard in a 6and 1/2 arco like shell so how rare are 6and 1/2 arco's?

they are very uncommon. there were some made for some nyc school district or something. there are some around. they arent cataloged from what i recall.

Here is the NYC Board Of Education acro that I sold in the 90's - I'm still kicking my self for selling this one...

Rare as hens teeth.

200, but I think there's more than 200 out there. They do occasionally surface on fleabay. You won't be able to touch one for under a thousand if does come up though. Too many guys waiting for one of these.

Greg - which snare drum on ebay? Post a URL so we can check it out.

Wow, Mike, that one is a gem! Looks like right out of the box. I'm having a ton of fun with mine. I can't believe they're even cheaper than acro's.

These little Standards are a great substitute/alternative to an acro, especially if you're on a tight budget. Under a hundred bucks... I'll have two please! I want to get the one that's basically a J-fest only with the Standard badge. I think I've gotten over hating the badge...

Thanks John, for reminding us to take another look and play at this gem!

I see a few folks pushing the prices of the Standard recently on fleecebay, usually "buy it now" sales close to $250. Crazy!

The Standard badge is really drop-dead gorgeous alongside the strainer and muffler which scream vintage Ludwig and quality. I remember the first time I saw the standard with the p-83, I thought "this can't be"! It looks so cool! How about the Standard lugs too? They are super cool...The aluminum shell has a really nice, wavy brushed surface.

And because Ludwig used the same strainer, muffler, t-rods and butt plate as used on the Supra, the Standard remains a very "high-end", low price drum. In the marketing category it was in at the time, Ludwig, in the interest of economy, could have gone with a 6-lug "Pioneer" type snare but Ludwig retained a higher "Standard" (pun intended) to smash the competing MIJ snares at the time. Way to go Bill Sr. and the Ludwig team!

Here's a pic of the Standard I scooped for $100. I would like to buy a wood Standard at some point with their MIJ-like wraps. I see the prices of these have gone up too.
