One of many things that I like about this forum is that Slingerland, Rogers, and other brands get a good deal of love in here compared to elsewhere online. There is another place where drum enthusiasts are welcomed to hang out as long as they worship at the shrines of vintage Ludwig and Gretsch or modern day DWs and the many "custom" Keller assemblers. Thanks to all for the level of civility and respect for the opinions of others.
I can`t vote cuz my Phonics aren`t welcome !!

ok here it is i was 16 i had just bought them it was so sweet but i took it for granted and played it with no concern of value, as it was state of the art back in 67 i walked into Biascoes in chitown and with my dads help got them on time with $75.00 down, so 2 years later i sold them to buy a engagement ring (stupid is stupid does) so numerous drum sets later all of the keepers we covet today so much, my ludwigs ,the gretchs, the slingys oh wow the brass alone i lost through the years but i figured it out between the years (and ears)and all the new starts i finally got it right now im married again 15 years and blessed with a solid family this last xmas i was looking on ebay just for the heck of it and on the day of my pa's bday the 22nd of dec there was this kit ending i had to do a double take as it was the pink champagne ludwig hollywood i lost back in 68 so i said to the wife heres my set i had when i was a kid that my dad helped me get she said go for it bid high so u dont loose it so i won the kit 2k + shipping, when i get it it was a storage war set (had allied storage tags on the cases)must of been played by a old timer who passed on and lost his storage, and he took great care of them they are immaculate original heads and still smells new with cases so there u have it the funny thing is they were sold to a guy in Michigan and thats were these came from it makes me wonder is it them ,or are they Heaven sent????anyway i think my dad guided me to them ...they play so sweet and im living the dream thanx for listening to me ,now a geezer drummer but loving every minute of it[Attachment: 28501]

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Wow! I wonder if we had the same first wives?
And, that's even better than when I found my first set. Well, not my first set, but the first nice kit... I did have a set of Crown's before, and did run across the snare on C/L (picked it up for $20.00) but the Ludwig Standards were nasty dirty. They had been living in a closet for about twenty five years. That took a load of cleaning, but they sure are nice to have again! Yes Sir
I voted Ludwig.
I like the sound better versus the old slingerlands I've played. Although I'd switch camps for a Rolling Bomber set up.
I also already have a set of Luddy's and am madly in love with them.
my first post! has to be Ludwig for me, I live half the time in London where I play a pre-serial downbeat kit with a 400 and the other half the year in New Orleans playing a set of radio kings.Ludwig just about has it for me, but ask me tomorrow it could be another thing!
Got a 1929 Ludwig black beauty too, now that's a snare........
I should be a die hard Ludwig guy, my first snare was a keystone badge Acrolite, my first good kit was a blue oyster pearl Downbeat kit that I thought was just like Ringo's because we only had a black and white TV. I was a big Carmine Appice fan and I had a double 26" maple kit. I also had another 26" mahogany colored maple early 70's kit in 26,13,14,16,18. Dumped them all. (stupid move) In the 80's when Gadd said I should have a Recording Custom kit I bought one, had to "modernize" my sound. Good sounding kit. Then I bought my first Cleveland era Rogers kit and couldn't believe the sound. I had been playing 26" and 22" BD and this 20" BD was killer! I didn't really even consider Rogers up to then but that 20,12,14 with a wood Powertone captivated me. Now I have 8 Rogers kits from all eras up to the big "R", all swivo no memoryloc. I still have 3 Ludwig kits from the 60's and 1 from the 70's. I also have 3 Slingerland kits, two from the 60's and one 70's jazz kit. So I know those sounds as well as the sounds of Jasper shells from my Fibes kit. My Ayotte kit I think are Keller shells. I rotate all the kits when I play out so I get to know each sound in different settings and I can honestly say they all sound great, not a stinker in the bunch, but those Rogers kits, all 8 of them are special sounding. The Ludwigs and Slingerlands have places where they sound great and some where they don't quite get it. The Rogers sound great everywhere, maybe a little tweak on the floor tom to match the room or a little de-tune on the rack tom to control the ring but all in all they sound the best of all my drums. So that's why I voted for Rogers because they sound the best in the most locations and if I had to have only one kit it would have to be Rogers. Specifically my Dayton kit with flat grey interiors, 22,13,16 in silver glass glitter that I inherited from my cousin who worked for Rogers in the late 60's. He hand picked the shells in Covington.
