Vintage Phil Collins Large KIT Last viewed: 1 day ago

Loading...

Hi,

New to forum and I was wondering if anyone here could do me a big favor. I am working on a project that requires reconstructing a drum kit (for sampling) that Phil C used when with GENESIS for the LAMB tour.

This was a very BIG KIT that included all kinds of percussion as part of the main kit as well as icing on the cake. He had 4 Timbales that he used as TOMS for example, in addition to his 2 RACK and 2 FLOOR toms.

I have photos but not the expertise to identify each drum kit piece by MFG and size/model.

Any help would be really appreciated. If you PM me, I can send you the photos to help in this quest.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Don't you mean Chester? Phil is playing Gretsch in this video.

Why not post here for all to see?

I have a couple of photos from the book, "Genesis Chapter and Verse."

In one black & white photo (page 147), he's playing a Premier kit (looks like a wood finish) with a clear Fibes snare. I'm guessing at the sizes of the drums I can see: 5x14 snare; 8x12 and 9x13 mounted toms; and 14x20 bass drum. I'm also guessing that the timbales are by Premier from looking at the lugs.

A color photo on pages 152-153 shows what looks to be the same kit, given a red tinge by the lighting. The bass drum head has a Premier logo. He's using a different snare: it looks black, but it could be a chrome drum in shadow. There's no way to detect the manufacturer. In this photo, he also has four temple blocks mounted over the mounted toms.

I would love to post photo(s) here in the thread. But, I am technically challenged. If someone could walk me through the process, I would be very grateful. I have this issue in all the forums I frequent.

But, the info you fine folks are offering is very helpful. I knew that someone would know how to ID these kit pieces. If you ever need some ID'ing of vintage amps and guitars I would be your man. :-)

Thanks,

Jim

I'm testing my ability to upload what Jim sent me. Files seem kind of small.

I'll do the rest this evening.

I set up a web page with the pictures in full resolution if you want to check these out....

I also made a fill in the blank template to easily communicate identified kit pieces.

Check it out and please help.

Jim

The timbales on those photos is a set of 1967-68 Slingerland set , and 1 Premier set the Pan timbales also look like Premier Models, not Pearl set thought to be originally. Other Set looks like a Gretsch drums and Rogers parts mix? Different photos not all same but timbales definitely are a set of Slingerland.
