Vintage and modern drums Last viewed: 9 hours ago

From my own experience in recording it ALL has to do with the engineer. not the drums/drummer. they have done A LOT to take out any small amount of individuality or originality a drummer personally has.. i've played a 400 dollar tama kit and it sounded better than a Ludwig Keystone. all has to do with the engineer. Good engineer = Good sound. if you can get someone who is very knowledgeable about actual drum tone instead of butchering your drums with programs you are a VERY lucky person.

Good input...makes sense to me...good engineer that knows more about drums is the ticket.

Drummers today of this generation have no clue about going into the studio they only know what they have learned in this new tech world (and this in not a cut or dig no offense intended) But when a group in the 60's and early 70's went into the studio they had a sound and they wanted to recreate that sound and so they held more of the cards they payed for the studio time and had more control ... today it is all canned sounding with all the studio tricks and gizomo's their is no individuality no creative sound... most engineers want you to play to a click track it is not for your band but for them to ease their job and it takes away from the human element of the music. Listen to early Deer Purple,Led Zep, Grand funk Railroad you hear the slight hic cups and goofs but it was all part of the band it made them live... when i recorded I only recorded with Rogers drums and i drug my complete set in and set it all up and told the man how I wanted them to sound I wanted that live sound not a quiet studio setup and i was paying the time and i got what I wanted.. don't be afraid to rock the boat it is your music make it sound like it is supposed to modern or vintage it makes no difference it is a sound you have created in your garage or studio recreate it there !
