was curious about the Ludwig Accent 5pc kits. what can you tell me bout them besides them being beginners and/or junk? please be realistic. i already have a vintage kit so am just looking for a cheap kit for my own pleasure that is mine and that i can do with as i want. thanks for your time.

also came across this kit[Attachment: 54800] which i think is a vintage kit ??? it has the battleship type lugs, does that mean it is an old kit?

That is a pretty blue! I cant really say much on the Accent kits because I haven't played one. From what I've read, they are more of a beginner line of kit. They are not Made in USA Ludwig. I hear the hardware on them are kind of cheapy crap... If I were looking for a newer kit, I would look into a Pacific Drums and Percussion. I have played a few of these and they were nice, made by DW Drums. I used to have a Gretsch Catalina Birch kit. It was a good sounding kit but I had trouble keeping it tuned.

They are an entry level drum set as you know. Eventually someone who actually owns one will chime in. I see Accents all the time on craigs list for sale and they seem to go for about 200- 500 depending on the included hardware and cymbals.

If you watch craigs list you will see that good deals on much better quality drums pop up from time to time for the same amount of money. Do you have a Music-go-round store nearby? I found a killer Pearl President kit in red oyster pearl , matching 10 lug snare for 160.00 one time. Member Billnvick told me to grab it, and I did. That is when Bill and I beacme good freinds. He was right, its a beauty and sounds really nice, what a deal!

So if your looking for a second kit be patient and a good deal will come your way.

Take a look at the Pearls >

hi jeff, no music-go-round around here that i know of but we do have a guitar center in peoria where my family and i trade at and have had pretty good dealings with. i have been looking at gc's used drums list and they have the accents for 179-299 and also pearls at about the same price. i was actually concidering a pearl 6pc ELX for 299 and a cup'l other pearl exports for around 200-300 just trying to decide which way to go.do you know much about these pearl kits? i know what i want to do with the drum set once i decide which one i want, lol. i also got my eye on the blue ludwig kit in the photo above. i sent an email asking for more info on that kit so hopefully i hear something from them tomarrow.

We have a Accent kit here. It's like 7-8 years old and holding up well. We bought it for our daughter one year for Christmas. She played a few times and that was it. But this was the kit that got me back into playing again. Overall they are a decent kit and sound ok. Once I got my other kits together there's no comparing them sound wise. The snare gave me fits till I broke down and bought better heads for it. Much better now. The bass drum sounds the best and has a nice deep boom. It's been a fun kit to play over the years. It's been the house kit here and survived many of the kids band practices. I plan to get some new heads for it and maybe a inexpensive makeover. We'll see. The hardware has been rock solid. The mounts are sort of like the old tube Pearl stuff. And still holding up fine.

Jeff you did VERY well for $160 that's a really cool kit you have there!

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

No not much of a Pearl expert, or any drum expert at that. Billnvick knows a ton on these. I think the Export is Pearls entry level kit. I know enough to get in trouble, lol.

Glenn, yes the Presidents were a good deal, thats why I have so many kits, I keep finding these hard to pass up deals.

Robyn, what are your plans for the "new" drums??? If you dont mind me asking.

Oh well then for that type of experiment I would get something cheep as possible. Lots of mij kits out there that would work. I bought one for 50.00 last summer and it came with a Slingerland chrome snare drum. I painted it lime green (not the snare) because my daughter wanted me to. I sold it to a young girl about 20 or so.

So, how do you tydye a drum?

Check out the lime green mij's
