The Turtle's John Barbata's Rogers kit

Does anyone know what sizes he played? I am guessing the Celebrity setup from this video:

Hard to be sure because they don't provide good closeup, but they do look like Celebrity kits. I think there is little doubt, however, that they are configured as a 22,13,16 kit and the snare looks like a COB Powertone.

Here the sizes are the same, but the mount layout seems to be different than a Celebrity would be - maybe a Swingtime. The nice thing about this video is that he's actually playing.

Did anyone notice the closed hi-hats where a splash cymbal would normally go?

Yes... I did notice! I've seen this video many times, because it's very cool! John's cymbal setup is very unconventional for the time period. Who would have ever thought to mount closed hats where a splash would be and have a splash on a cymbal extension above the right-side crash. Plus, John shows excellent showmanship and is a joy to watch! Can you tell I like the Turtles?!! LOL

Yeah might not be a Celebrity but I agree on the sizes. I am going to shoot him an email and just ask!

You are right about the showmanship ID4F. I've noticed that time and time again. I also really dig onyx on Rogers drums, so blue onyx in that video looks superb. If anybody has other videos of the period showing guys playing Rogers drums in color, send them along.

Again, this is a great video given they are actually playing. I found a video of the Dave Clark V recently that is really funny because they were forced to play after the backing track failed. I had to do one video years ago where we were faking it to a backing track. Such nonsense. That is one reason the Beatles stuff is generally nice to watch because they were nearly always playing live here in the US.

Perfect nourishment for the soul of a pop music junky like me. Gigged those super fills and licks a million times with my oldies band. Thanks for sharing. Thank God the Sullivan shows and few too others, acts had to play live....or at least sing over their studio tracks as is the case with the Turtles vids....E. Dean Heck band2
