Slingy Red Tiger Pearl Kit Year Huh?

Hey dudes!

So I am buying this Slingerland kit in Red Tiger Pearl. I know its not the most desirable finish, and even though it is technically "rare-ish" compared to any solid sparkle or pearl kit etc, people aren't that into it. All that is fine with me. This kit is in killer condition and when I clean it up it is gonna look like new! Im stoked.

My question is this: According the Slingerland book, the finish was made from 1970 to 1973. This kit has gold and black niles badges, and they are all in the 224xxx range. That puts it late 60's (ish) by my count. I hear that the catalogues started showing the finish in 68...so why would the book say 70-73 only? This is obviously an earlier one. Was it just an oversight on Rob's part at the time? Seems like 68-73 would make more sense.

Sizes are 20/12/13/16 w/ original Krupa snare.

The kit has the earlier plain aluminum? set-o-matic mount, and looks to be original all over. No holes, minor pitting, all the parts are there, the wrap is in KILLER shape. The only thing it is missing is the inlay on the front bass drum hoop as well as the Ts and claws (older Gretsch style Ts).

SO, I just wanted to share this with everyone and get anyone's comments on it. I am paying what I think is a very fair price for it, and it comes with some extra Slingy hardware...spur and floor tom leg mounts (which is nice). I will need to locate a hoop however. Ill post in the Wanted section, but for now...does anyone care to comment on the years this finish was actually produced? Let me see pics of your RTP kits! Im stoked on them! Kevins, VM2K, Im looking at you guys!

Well, this is actually a subject that I have first hand knowledge in, believe it or not. I have the same kit you have, same badges, not sure of s/n#'s (on the road) and for the record, disagree completely that red tiger pearl is not the most desirable finish! My wrap is also in killer condition and offer that this particular wrap ages like a fine wine!

I also was confused by the dating of my drums due to the same reasons you listed, so I just quit caring about dating them and focused on creating some monster jams with 'em instead!

My kit the (actual drums) is in what I would call pristine condition with never having any rust, the chrome shines like a cadillac bumper, the hoops, inlays and all that are excellent but I am also missing the front torpedo's and claws. I have all the original hardware too but I have never really cleaned it up much and have been buying up modern stands because those flat bottomers just seem rickety and tipsy to me..... Sadly, I am also missing the front torpedos and claws, and I am perplexed that the first thread on this particular wrap also is missing the same parts. I know it is silly, but one must wonder.....LOL.

Rich K posted some pics of his kit awhile back and his had the super set-o-matic, and it looked sweet! I have been monitoring the airwaves for this particular wrap and the other time I saw something was some Army Ranger guy wanted to trade a red tiger pearl kit he had for some guns. This was on some gun forum. I don't think it was in too good of shape because VM2K looked at my post and replied "I will keep my guns"...LOL LoLoLoLo I also believe Old School bought a set of red tiger pearls too, now that I think about it.

I am out of town for work, and will probably be here or there for the next month but if I get a minute at home, I will post some pics of the best looking wrap these eyes have ever seen.....Yes Sir

If you stumble upon 16 torpedo rods and claws, I will pay half or if you find a junker kick that has them, I will definitely go in on that with you. MD offered me a kick with those on it for a couple hundo but that drum is in good condition and I don't want to scavenge a living soul. I can wait.......

The drums covered with wrap colors that did not sell very well are, indeed, very desireable..........to those of us who like uncommon finishes on drums. For every one of us lovers of "odd ball" drum wraps, there must be 1000 people who drool at the thought of Silver Sparkle.

I love the odd ball finishes, but also love some of the most common finishes such as White Marine Pearl and Black Diamond Pearl. I have a fondness for unusual two-tone Duco paint jobs, too.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Dan, He he!! man you've got a good memory!!!, that remark was from a craigslist ad, the poster wanted to trade his very bad condition Red Tiger kit for either, a 9MM,Smith-Wesson, Colt, or a Beretta. all the guns he was wanted to trade for have greater value than his kit did. that was the reason for my response.!!

I flat out love the look of my Red Tigers! I actually get more compliments on this kit than any of my others when playing out. I've played mine with both one up and two up and have used both the single and double Set-O-Matic mounts as well as the "Super" Set-O-Matic.

NICE!

I can't wait to get this kit up and running. I have a feeling the 20 inch hoop with the correct inlay is going to be impossible to find though. Hope Im wrong. Otherwise I guess I could just do two red sparkle or chrome inlays for now until one surfaces.

Keep the pics coming if anyone else has a kit! Im lovin it!

Those are some really sweet looking Slingys. I have never seen one in that finish up close and personal,I would like to.
