Slingerland Yellow Jacket set Last viewed: 1 day ago

Loading...

In 1982 I bought a complete Slingerland yellow jacket set from a friend of mine who bought it new in 1980. all hardware is copper plated with black shells except the snare is total copper plated. All the stands (cymbals, hihat, mounts and floor) are copper plated. The base pedal and the hihat have "Yellow Jacket" on them. I know it for sure it was sold as a set when new. I still have the set sitting in my living room as a show piece and to play occasionally. (I am now 48 and still bang on them some). The issue is, there is NOTHING on the internet about this set that I can find. I was told that there were around 100 total made by Slingerland when i got it but i was wanting to get more accurate info. Anyone got any data on this set? thanks GRT

Slingerland never made a set of drums called "Yellow Jacket" that would be the name on the bass drum pedal...Slingerland made a set called "Black and Gold" that is what your set is...iam not sure but i dont think Slingerland made only 100 of these sets...Mikey

I had a YJ kick pedal for a long time, as a kid-ager. It was one of my longest used pedals (probably because I didn't really have the foot-skills, then, to work it over). I think I remember it being pretty cool-looking, too. (I also remember having a piece of plywood for a HH pedal then, too.....hmmmmm.)

Keep hitting them drums - I'm 47 and still get some time in.

will try to post a couple of pictures this weekend plus i understand the point of it actually being the "BLACK AND GOLD" set but i am wondering about the "YELLOW JACKET" hihat.... thoughts on its origin?? GRT ps i might even have the original boxes the cycmbal stands and hihat came in...got to look in my parents basement to see if they are still there, my friend gave them to me when i bought the set.

Interesting....

I have several Yellow Jacket bass drum pedals (the yellow ones) but I have never seen a Yellow Jacket hi hat.

Not a Guru... just interested..

Interesting set. You can get a bit of info in The Slingerland Book by Rob Cook on page 142. I bought a set in July with snare and hardward and paid $350. They are not in excellent shape by any means but I, like the Slingerland management at the time, find these drums very attractive. I have also heard the number manufactured was between 400-1200. The set is rare but not to desirable except by us die hard drum lovers.

Keep them in the living room, much better than some stinking curio cabinet. (as long as wifey agrees lol)

Jim, thanks for the pictures, my set, however looks a little different, different tom mounts...etc. mine also had pinstripe heads from when it was new, which are still on the drums except the base drum. tks for info everyone GRT
