Slingerland Set

Loading...

Hello! New to the forum so excuse me if I post on wrong thread. Looking at buying this Slingerland set from a guy at a pawn shop for $700...includes stands and cymbals. The high hat stand and kick pedal are Slingerland but cymbals are not great quality. He says he has restored it and put new heads on it. All toms are original set...snare was added later but it is Slingerland as well. Played it and sounded good. Looking to play jazz and R&B style...

Attached are some pics...

Any thoughts?

Pedals are nice, but it's not a $700 kit just because it has new heads. Single-headed toms aren't your best bet for jazz but if you played it and you like it …

I've purchased double-headed Slingerland kits for less than $500, so I'd draw the line around there. Maybe a bit more because of the restoration and the fact that they're 3-ply shells. Start by offering $400 and tell him he can keep the cymbals.

I also agree to high for what your getting/ offer him 400.00 see how that goes the bass drum is a 3 ply shell with reinforcement rings the yellow jacket bass drum pedal they are great pedals, the snare drum from the 1st pic looks like an aluminum model but not sure of that from that pic?

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

A pawn shop??..First off he wants to double his money so he may have 300 in it but I,d wager more like 175-200 tops. There are SO MANY nicer kits out there, you should think of your money working for you. Check the f/s section here, you will always get decent value and a fair deal.

Yeah, pass on that one. Unless you specifically want concert toms, and an 18" floor tom, you might have a hard time getting the tone you want for your style of music.

That solid red wrap, even if original, is not particularly desirable.

That appears to be a chrome over steel Festival snare, rather than a brass Super Krupa, so, adequate but not terribly desirable.

The bass drum hoops seem to have been replaced, stripped, or painted.

The cymbals are of "needs replacement instantly" quality.

The only thing that's particularly desirable about the set is the matching Yellow Jacket pedals. Way hip, there.

You can do better than that for that money for a set of Slingies.

Weird set. Never seen the single head toms without a matching single head BD.

But yea...I agree with everyone, you can do better for that kind of dough

I'll join the consensus of opinions posted before me. Back away from this drum set. I'm a guy who has owned and played Slingerland drums for more than 50 years. The toms are the "problem". The cymbals aren't a problem. They are just plain garbage. The pedals are terrific. If they'll sell both pedals to you for $50, grab them.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
