Slingerland set for a student

Loading...

Hi All,

I have a prospective student looking for a set so he can start up lessons. He has a friend selling these Slingerlands for around $200. For me, a complete set that looks clean like this is a good buy for a beginner at that price regardless of vintage value. Do you guys know more about these?

I think they are around 1979. I can't tell what the cymbals are from the pictures they sent. What are these worth? What are they made of? Are they good quality? I've never owned Slingerland, and have only played earlier sets than this one.

I will pass on any advice to my student.

Thanks!

Looks decent to me for 2 bones. Not really much else you can get for that including cymbals. The hats almost look like Paiste.

Thanks guys!

Jonnistix- I was thinking the same thing about the hats. Looks like there might be a red label.

Vintagemore- What wood would these be? A mixture, or maple? Birch?

Your student is snagging a great set of Slingerlands. Those shells sound very good. I'm sure they will really love them with good tuning and some new heads!!

I have a 79 Slingerland kit. Mine is a 3 ply and is my favorite (Oak finish). Unbelievable sound. If that kit does turn out to be 5 ply, they will sound great. Excellent quality during those years. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

So much great information! Thank you guys very much for sharing your knowledge! I suspected that it might have been the Time Machine, but it is great to get confirmation.

I contacted my student's mom, and she said they will have them bought and ready for his first lesson this Thursday. I will give them a closer look then and let you all know what the deal is.

It was pretty funny when I was asking her about the set. She wouldn't give me much information because I think that she thought I might swoop in and take it or something LoLoLoLo

You would not happen to be in Florida would you. I saw a set like that on CL not long ago and wonder if it has been cleaned up and being resold.
