I got a line on a three piece Root beer set (13,16,20) . I read on the Slingerland book thats a a fairly rare set. I dont have pixs but I saw the set like three years ago and its in pretty good shape. The guys wants me to throw an offer and Im playing by ear on this one...Any idea how much a set like this should go for today?. Im planning on keepin the set. Not for flippin.

Well... looking at ebay completed auctions where the kits actually sold.. you should probably be somewhere between $800 and $1200. Any stands or anything else coming with it??

I don't know how rare that finish is:confused:.. sounds sweet!

Older RK stuff complete sets are up there in the 1200(+) range. Three piece drums only in that 800-900 range (maybe even lower).

Best of luck.. I'm no expert at all.. just dug around on ebay a little purely out of interest.

It's my opinion, and reinforced by DrCJW, that there's no such Slingerland color as "Root Beer". Merely natural fading of Sparkling Black Pearl. Here's the link... http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/drcjw/article_4_finishes15.htm#

Thanks a lot for your input Jim. Yes, I was aware of what "regular" Slingy set are fetching on Ebay but this is a very rare finish. Ive never seen one (with my own two eyes) besides this one on my life. I remember seen one on Ebay but didnt follow through. Theres no stands or cymbals included. Just the three drums.

So even if it is faded Black Sparkle and not "Root Beer"... Black Sparkle is not one you run across every day either.

Ran across this while trying to float this Root Beer story...
" Ok folks, I need some help please. I have a put together Slingerland kit in what I was told is Black sparkle pearl that faded to Root beer sparkle?? Now I just got a copy of "The Slingerland Book" and it mentions in a side note that this could have been an uncataloged finish that was available for a short time in the early sixties. There's some plausibility there as that is the age of the drums. Someone also told me that the Bass drum was a floortom shell and could have been the "personal" set of an employee because Slingerland definitely didn't offer a bass drum in 20x18 back then. it wasn't converted because there is no evidence of the leg mount holes (nor filler). So, could an employee have snagged a 20" floor tom shell and made it into a bass drum with correct hardware tom mount plate etc....? And did Rootbeer sparkle finish really exist? Any info will be appreciated."
This poor guy got mugged for asking about Root Beer to... but still there is a bit of mystery...:o

Vinny, This is my take on this.Slingerland made a sparkling black pearl finish that i have seen that faded to a root beer color. But i have also been told that Slingerland do make a very very few set's in Root Beer sparkle when i say a few iam saying less than 12 sets in the world.I have check over the years a few set's that the owner's had said that they were Root Beer sparkle But the way to know for sure is remove a lug and look under it to see if the finish is Sparkling Black Pearl or Root Beer .B.T.W. the set's i check out were sparkling Black pearl sets that faded.....Mikey

Hey this is getting interesting. Cant wait to see how it turns out. So lets say it is the real deal, root beer sparkle and only 12 sets in existence. How do you put a price on that?

Thank you!

I suggest going by todays amount, according to "Jill Kelley",for "brokering" an international coal gassification deal with So.Korea-$80,000,000.Burger Kin No-this is more real...Without any history or specific artist provenance, and if it is an uncatalogued factory installed color?Maybe $2,000?
