Slingerland Concorde Kit Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Hi All,

Just signed up. This site has been a great resource for finding out tonnes of stuff about these slingerland concordes I recently picked up.

I found a 24" kick and 14" concert tom for sale in Toronto for $150 and had to have them. I got them home and gave them a full inspection; they were beat to hell and scuffed all over, but I loved them. The only problem was that I didn't have a matching floor tom. Just a nicely stained yamaha stage custom.

A couple months went by and I decided I should probably sell the whole kit as I wasn't happy with it's mismatched drums and could use the money. After listing it, only the floor tom sold. I decided to keep the kick and rack and see if I could track down a floor tom.

I contacted the guy I bought the other drums from and found out that he had the email address for the person that bought the 18" floor tom from him. I sent off and email asking if he'd be willing to sell it and he said he would! I'm sure you can imagine how happy I was. For $100 ($250 total) I had a nice big set of vintage slingerlands that matched.

I took off the metal ring from the bottom of the 14" concert tom and discovered there was a bearing edge already cut. I went to a local drum shop and had them install lugs for me, and turned it into a standard tom.

Anyways, that's the story, it seemed way more exciting living through it. Might not be so thrilling to read it! haha.

Here are some before pictures of just the 2 drums, I'll update this post tomorrow after I take some after shots of the whole kit cleaned up and ready to jam.

Brandon, way to go, this will be be a great players kit. hey it's always exciting to get vintage drum gear! thanks for sharing it with us! also yes there is a bearing edge under the metal ring, and it won't hurt the value of these shell to brill them and make it a double tension model, also you do not want to under take stripping this copper wrap off the drum, the glue that was used is a bear to remove,! here is a link to an 16x18 concorde floor tom shell i stripped! http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=12791

Great story and set of drums. Attached is a photo of my first set of Slingerlands back in the day. I can't believe I took the reso heads off. Sign of the times but regardless I loved this set and I still have the 12" rack tom. The rest of the kit was lost and stolen over the years.

The best of luck with your set. Some photos of the complete kit when you have the time please.
