Wow! I -knew- there would be some real beauties out there! Thank you for posting.Ploughman - I have a list of 'seller regret' drums a mile long! I am surprised that you let it go though, they are rare snare drums. Not a ton of them around and they sound excellent.Jeff - How does yours sound? Were you surprised by the quality when you first played it? This little thing knocked my socks off. I'm really impressed with them.Downbeat - Man, don't ever sell it unless you absolutely, positively have to! Great drums. Post up a shot of yours if you can.Keep them coming please! John, it sounds great of course. But I dont have the trained ears like most of you guys to describe the difference between all these drums. I love it, it was a gift from my daughter, it will be with me forever, not for sale, ever ever ever!

Here is my pre-serial 4x14 downbeat and a 3x13 WFL Jazz Combo for good measure. I have another early Keystone 3x13 in green Duco and a later-60s Keystone 3x13 in Chrome as well, but I cannot locate good pictures of them. The WFL had original calf heads when I bought it (although snare side was ripped and the batter has since developed a tear). All three of the wood ones are responsive (the WFL less so because of calfskin and lower tension). The chrome is quite different, as you might imagine.

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

It's never easy saying good-bye to a "family member". I sold the drum to a gentleman out in Colorado. The GOOD NEWS is that he'll be using it to complete a Ludwig WMP downbeat kit.

Yeah, just a Downbeat snare...in GALAXY! How rare is that, and how much would it bring!

I have owned and played a Jazz fest but this snare looks interesting. Do you guys think this snare is more versatile? If you had to have this or the Jazz fest which would it be?
