Questions and diary about restuaration of my LA Camco Last viewed: 2 hours ago

The only way this one will leave my hands is a trade for another Chanute era 12" tom in walnut. Besides your kit is an L.A. era which used Keller shells so sound wise they wouldn't match up and trying to match up lacquers is tough enough but from two different eras probably wouldn't even be close. Keep looking for an L.A. tom, you would be better off.

I understaind...

And you a probably right, I would preffer too to get a tom from right era.

I am just have a bad feeling that it will take many many years before I see 10 or 12" tom for sale in Ebony.Hmmmm

I see this one, but it´s in horrible shape... Extra holes, painted inside shell, bearing edges look like a pitbul chewed on it, no muffler, no badge, bad exterior... Nothing to use, actually. And still can be wrong era!?!

But, as long, I will try to find some similar DW tom .

Here is one, 10", but price, for me ( incl shipping ) 360$??? If seller do not want write gift ( it´s probbaly even against the law) , then I even have to pay custom + 21% = 435$ ?!?!?!?!?!

I was even thinking to build a tom , to order 6 ply keller with reinforcement rings, get some dw lugs and hoop, stain it by my own, so far...?

Actually, how big differnce is between Camo LA and DW collectors?

Same hardware, same tools, same designs, BUT differnet name/badge/owner just, or? (except the that Camco is a Camco and DW is a DW , from collectors/vintage point of view?)

DW shells are all maple, they are also very thin (6 ply toms, 7 ply bass) and have 3 ply maple reinformcement rings on the top and bottom near the head. Shells made by Keller.

Tanks a lot, you have been a realy knowlege source for me so far, about Camco.

I find out that there is not much info on internet about Camco, not as much as if you looking for info for Ludwig, Slingy, Rogers and so on...

Camco did not offer a 10" tom. They were available in 12/13/14 & 15 in the L.A. Era. However L.A. era Camco was very open to doing custom drums and a few 10" toms have surfaced although they are extremely rare. You would be better off having one made or getting a DW than trying to find a Camco one. Early DW drums are basically L.A. Camco drums with DW badge. They would be pre-1987 and would have the same tom mounts, spurs, etc as Camco.

But I see on Germa Ebay a late-late Camco ( those oval, after cloud badge ) , wiyh at least 6 toms, I think it was contain even 10". But it may be custom order, as you said. It was some kind of walnut or natural stain, with great holz inlay in toms. ( it was NOT Camco-Tama).

By the way, I put new heads on toms yesterday, and made a simple record of drums ( dont listen to how I playDOH)
