Questions and diary about restuaration of my LA Camco Last viewed: 2 seconds ago

From DolFan54

Not as far as I know. I bought an L.A. kit but it was just the shells. I outfitted it with generic hoops and they all worked fine with no splay. But L.A. era Camco drums are not my thing. I collect Oaklawn Camco drums and George Way drums. The only L.A. Camco drum I have in my collection is a 5x14 snare drum in Stradivarius finish w/ gold hardware.

Sorry my bad english, but what is generic hoops?

Hmmm, as more I am looking on different sets on Internet, Camco Walnt, I get my set to be a darker than some other walnut?

Does stain get darker with the years?

This is another Walnut stain set:

and this is mine set:

I'm thinking your kit might be the ultra rare Ebony Stain which looks like a dark walnut. I found a 12" walnut tom off of Ebay to match my kit but when it arrived it turned out to be Ebony Stain! It's hard to tell in photos but next to walnut it doesn't match up very well.

BTW the kit in the top pic is not walnut, it's Stadivarius.

Hmmm....Those kit , above mine, was selling on ebay, and owner said its was walnut...?!? But so red is NOT mine, mine is much darker, and have musch "bigger" wood graining. So you have right, it must be Starvidarius.

I never see other Walnut kit, just on pictures. And Ebony not even on the pictures! But from Camcos finnish swatches, I see that wood graining is denser on Walnut that Ebony, and that Ebony seems to be a litle, litle darker than Walnut.

I would place, in coulor ( dark/light) mine somewhere between Walnut and Ebony ( perhaps litle-litel closer to Walnut). But when it comes to wood grain, it defentily more like Ebony. Graining is " big" , not so close to each other.

But, the pictures of swatches is faded, so it´s very hard to comepare with those.

Could you take som pictures of your Ebony, beside Walnut, oversend, so I could comapere?

Btw, you are not gona to sale your 12" tom?

Here is picture on another camco LA walnut from Swedish Camco expert, I borrow this picture ( P.J. I hope you do not mind that I took this photo without your permission?)

Here is picture of another Camco, from ebay, thats says Walnut....

Antoher Walnut, from E-bay

and

and mine:

And those are NOT natural maple stain, thats for shure.

And NOT Stravidarius, since that finish is much more redish.

So those other kits are Walnut,as owner says, then are mine ARE darker those Walnut set above !?!

Could mine be a Ebony Satin and not Walnut Stain? Anyone have a "good" picture of Camco Ebony?

Here is all stain from all 3 eras. But bad quality, so they do not help att all.

Btw, I messure on my floortom hoop, its 18, 5" ???? Thats whay I hade problem with that one. I order a regular 18" hoop, it will come in few days.

Super, let's just say "stain"...your Camcos are sweet, but getting the color nailed down is looking more like a headache each trime you post another shot.

My vote is for Ebony Walnut....OK?
