Yes it is a rare finish. That's a nice set. Stranger sets have shown up here in terms of the badge, date components. This seems totally normal, and consistent with the era.

That Mod orange set comes to mind.

Very pretty drum set! It appears to be in great shape. I would like to see what's up with the 13" tom having a rotary muffler knob in '67. I suppose it's understandable because it is a Dec., 1967 date (late in the year). And from the provenance and the completeness, I don't think there's anything "funny" going on at all.

It's really gorgeous, man. The only thing that would make it slightly "better", would be if the bass drum was a 22" because then you would have a catalogued configuration.

Congrats on a beautiful, matched set of vintage Ludwig drums!Burger Kin

Great looking set...I would say you could probably hit $1,500-$1,800(if you waited a little while). How much did you buy it for?

I gave $400 for it.....It is in absolutley like new condition. I would say 9.8 on a 1-10 scale. Looks like it was never played much. It has a few stick marks on the original heads..

Hello all,

I am new here and don't know all vintage drum stuff but I do know the burgundy Ludwig downbeat kit. I have owned one for 42 years and have been researching it's value for 2 years.

Your kit ($400 WOW) is a combo of the classic and downbeat kits. The 9"x13" tom & 16"x16" floor tom are from the classic kit. The 14"x20" bass drum is from the downbeat kit and is rare. The burgundy rap is rare also.

Here is what I have found for sale via the internet. As with everything, value is what someone will pay for it.

New:

Steve Maxwell Vintage and Custom Drums.

Gretsch Curly Maple 20/12/14/5.5x14 Vintage Tribute Kit $4,240.00

Used/rebuilt:

Ludwig 1960s Burgundy Sparkle Downbeat set

Excellent kit $2600

Reconstruct, all parts/no rap:

1960s Ludwig 12 x 8 Tom Drum w Hardware

7 Bids $122.50

1960s Ludwig 14 x 14 Floor Tom Drum w Hardware

20 Bids $204.98

ebay

Rap:

Sparkle g -Drum Cov. Burgundy Ludwig Style- Full Sheet 24x54 $96.00

This info is for a downbeat. Your 13 & 16 seem to be less desirable but $400 who cares!!!

The snare value is variable.

Ludwig Supraphonic Snare Drum 14x5 Supra Vintage 60s

Item condition: Used

Time left: 23d 22h (Jul 07, 201020:40:16 PDT)

Price: US $345.00

ebay

So...The Ludwig downbeat is the first kit called a Ringo kit as this was the first kit he used, making it more desirable and rare. The burgundy downbeat is really rare. I have read it is/was Ringo's favorite and he has/had a Burgundy sparkle kit in his home.

Over the last 2 years the Burgundy stuff for sale has dried up, globally. We may own museum pieces...

I found a classic kit that was for sale from this site in 2009:
