WFL changed their name to Ludwig in 1956.

Interesting . So how long did they keep the wfl line going?

I assume when you refer to the "wfl line" you're referring to the company name? If so, the WFL Drum Company, started in the late 1930's by WF Ludwig, stopped using the WFL name when Mr. Ludwig purchased the Ludwig name from Conn in 1956. WFL badges can be found on Ludwig drums into the year 1958.

I've Had many folks comment on wfls in the early 60s which lead me to believe the wfl co was still atound in the sixties

So I assumes it meant they were still out

ludwig used up whatever leftover wfl stuff they had in the 60's. its common to see wfl 1121 hi hat stands, wfl snare stands, wfl speed kings that came with ludwig kits sometimes well into the mid 60's.

Yes - I have a late 50's Gretsch kit. The drums may have been in the Factory warehouse for a while before they were shipped off to the music store in this little town in Canada where they were bought new....in 1960....they're 3ply drums. The buyer bought a new WFL 1121 hihat and a WFL SpeedKing shortly after buying the kit in 1960. I bought the lot from his daughter in 2009 who inherited all the drum gear after his death.

I have a 1941 WFL marble set and the toms are single headed with white painted interiors.

I found this piece of literature once that I thought was cool. I think WFL started sometime in 1936. Not sure when the first production drum was made. Would be cool to know.
