I have a snare in my shop right now that I am cleaning up a bit and giving a little TLC to for a customer but I have no idea who it is made by. Here is what I know. The WPM finish has yellow somewhat but is in real good condition. The shell appears to by a 3 ply maple with reinforcement rings and has a good quality wood to the plys which is leading me to believe that this was not a student model or cheaper snare drum. There is a reinforcement plate behind the which; by the construction method leads me to believe it is American made and not an import. The throw off looks like it is similar to some older Ludwig designs and after two days of searching the web it most closely resembles the throw off on a Champion snare drum pictured on this site but is not an exact match. The construction and look of the drums are leading me to this this is a 50's era drum and has had some parts replaced. The hoops are both more modern looking flanged chrome hoops but the lugs are what sound like nickel over brass when I tap them (I haven't got to this drum to take it apart yet to verify) and are also of a style that I have never seen before. Sometimes you see a lug and know that you have seen it before but can't place exactly where but this is not that case, I also had another local vintage drum nut and friend of mine look at the drum and he didn't recognize the lug either. He was thinging that the drum may be custom from a drum maker that just bought a shell and some hardware from larger companies and modified them but that is only a guess. There is no badge are any other stamped indicator of maker on the drum that I can find so I am not even sure where to continue searching.
Sorry for the long post. I have attached some picture, any help on this wold be greatly appreciated.
