I still haven't made up my mind. I may have to start a thread and take a poll when I get closer to being ready. I really want to go with Modern Bermuda Sand since it's the closest thing to champagne we can get these days. But, the kit looks so good in the green sparkle it is now. If it didn't need to be redone, I'd gladly leave it green. I've been tempted to go with red glass as well, though.
I'm hoping to get on that in the spring, so I'll send a piece of the new that's left over, a piece of the modern green sparkle that was so sloppily put on the FT, and a piece of the original that doesn't have black spots in it.

Thanks Jeff will do~!

Nice, I was wondering of you'd do them in the Bermuda Sand. Take a look at the Drum Foundry website too. They might have something you like.
Will do. I don't think I've visited their site yet.

Just a quick update........Jeff C was able to send me some scrap pieces of wrap he had around the shop. Some is MIJ and some Slingerland. I'm going to paint these with a variety of paints and lacquers. And submit them to the same tests. I also plan to test this on adhesives later on. I know it removes adhesives and glue no problems as we use them at work. But plan to find a junk shell and do some tests. Yes Sir
Jeff thanks again for the samples. Your a good man!! And I'll send some of these back to you to see the results.
Please make this a sticky
Here's the next batch of test samples. This will be interesting as 2 of them are MIJ wraps and I've been wondering how they will hold up.
Pic 1 is MIJ gold sparkle. Has a black color on backside.
Pic 2 is Slingerland (late 50's vintage) with the 2 sided blue over red sparkle.
Pic 3 and 4 is MIJ blue sparkle which has already been painted over in red. These samples being already painted (for some time) are perfect to try. The last pic you can see where the red paint was wiped off in a spot. It also melted slightly. This piece is cool because I can compare my results to the already melted spot. Jeff C kindly sent several pieces of each wrap and color. So multiple tests will be done. The unpainted samples are going to my sons house tomorrow as he'll be painting a few guitars towards the end of the week. And will spray multiple coats of different colors on them.
Observation on wrap comdition. Both the MIJ wraps are brittle and thinner than the Slingerland. They seem about the smae thickness as the 50's Gretsch WMP. The Slingerland wrap is thicker and still very plyable. Part of the test is also to check if the chemistry dries out the wraps making them even more fragile. The Gretsch wrap did not and the test piece I painted and cleaned previously was used on the bracket I make for my RK strainer. It's holding up just swell. :)
Just to add I don't know the brand and age of the 2 MIJ wraps. If anyone has a guess I'm all ears.
Also I could use scraps from a Ludwig and Rogers wrap too. I'd like to try as many possible for a wider test range. Premier/UK and any Euro or MIJ wraps most welcome too!! Whoever sends test samples I'd be happy to send them back to them to inspect in person.
While this type of paint removal may not be for everyone......it gives us another option if it works.
More to come.
